Tata Communications and Tata Motors partner to equip the newly launched Sierra EV electric SUV with built-in 5G cellular connectivity, marking a major step for connected car technology in India. Announced on August 25, 2026, the collaboration brings Tata Communications’ MOVE Connected Vehicle Platform together with Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles’ proprietary N.IO software-defined vehicle architecture.

The integration creates a secure, scalable digital foundation designed to support smarter, personalized, and continuously evolving mobility. It also positions the Tata Sierra EV 5G connectivity system as a key example of how software and high-speed networks can transform an electric SUV after it leaves the showroom.

What Will 5G Bring to the Sierra EV?

Tata Communications and Tata Motors partner to deliver seamless digital-first in-vehicle experiences. High-speed connectivity will enable HD content streaming, responsive infotainment, and personalized cabin services while maintaining a secured connection.

Faster over-the-air updates will allow Tata Motors to remotely deploy software packages, performance patches, security improvements, and new features throughout the vehicle’s lifetime. Owners may also be able to purchase on-demand feature upgrades and subscription-based services directly through the car’s interface.

Real-Time Diagnostics and Safety Support

Continuous telemetry will support real-time remote vehicle diagnostics, safety-critical monitoring, and faster technical assistance. The connected infrastructure can identify potential issues, share relevant vehicle information and help improve service response. It will also support critical functions such as automated emergency calling, commonly known as eCall.

Tata Communications and Tata Motors partner to make the Sierra EV more than an electric vehicle; the objective is to develop an intelligent ecosystem capable of securely adding services and applications over time.

AI-Ready Foundation for India’s Smart EV Future

The MOVE platform already supports advanced connected architectures globally, including applications associated with luxury automotive brands such as Jaguar Land Rover. Its integration with the N.IO SDV architecture creates an AI-ready and scalable base for the Tata Motors 5G electric SUV.

Vivek Manglik, Executive Vice President – Interaction Fabric at Tata Communications, said the underlying digital fabric will be central to innovation as vehicles evolve into intelligent ecosystems. He added that the collaboration reflects a shared commitment to improving convenience and personalization securely.

By combining 5G, cloud-based services, and software-defined capabilities, Tata Communications and Tata Motors partner to successfully establish a new benchmark for the next-gen smart EV market and encourage wider connected-EV adoption across India.
