BMW Unveils i5 Long Wheelbase in India as Luxury EV Demand Rises
The launch strengthens BMW’s position in India’s expanding premium electric-mobility market. Designed primarily for chauffeur-driven customers and families seeking generous rear-seat space, the i5 Long Wheelbase is claimed to be the largest and longest sedan in its segment.

It measures 5,175 mm long, 2,156 mm wide and 1,520 mm high. Its commanding 3,105 mm wheelbase creates additional legroom and improves rear-passenger comfort, reinforcing the sedan’s luxury-focused positioning.
Power, Battery and 669 km Range
BMW Unveils i5 Long Wheelbase in India with a single electric motor producing 268 hp of instantaneous power. The electric sedan can accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds, combining smooth performance with long-distance usability.
An 81.6 kWh high-voltage battery delivers a claimed driving range of up to 669 km under the Modified Indian Driving Cycle. This figure could make the locally assembled i5 attractive to buyers concerned about range anxiety.
Premium Features and Limited First Edition
Inside, the sedan receives BMW’s large curved touchscreen display with the latest operating system, four-zone climate control, and a panoramic glass roof. An exclusive First Edition, limited to only 99 units, adds upgraded rear-seat entertainment, distinctive accents, and specially configured interior themes.
Warranty, Service and Finance Options
The i5 is covered by a standard two-year, unlimited-kilometer warranty and two years of roadside assistance. Service packages begin at three years or 40,000 km and can be extended to 10 years or 100,000 km. Buyers can also extend the vehicle warranty for up to 10 years.
BMW Smart Finance offers customized funding solutions, including flexible EMIs, reduced interest rates on selected models, assured buy-back plans, and end-of-term flexibility.
Why This Launch Matters
BMW Unveils the i5 Long Wheelbase in India at a time when local assembly can improve market accessibility and support the growth of premium EV adoption. Bookings are now open, while pricing and delivery details are expected separately.
The supplied ₹49.90 lakh introductory price relates to the BMW X1 Long Wheelbase, not the i5 electric sedan, and should not be interpreted as the i5’s price.
