Private equity major Bain Capital is reportedly in advanced discussions to invest up to ₹2,850 crore ($300 million) in JBM Auto’s electric vehicle manufacturing business, as India’s electric bus market attracts increasing institutional capital. Bain Capital looks to drive into JBM with either a significant minority stake or joint control of the clean mobility unit.
$300 Million Investment Could Accelerate JBM’s EV Expansion
The proposed investment would provide growth capital as JBM Auto expands beyond its traditional auto-components operations into a broader clean energy mobility platform.

The company has built an order book of more than 9,000–10,000 electric buses, expected to be executed over the next two to three years. This large pipeline makes the EV business increasingly important to JBM Auto’s future growth.
For FY27, JBM Auto expects its EV division to generate nearly 45% of its projected ₹7,000–₹7,500 crore revenue. Against this backdrop, Bain Capital looks to drive into JBM at a crucial stage of its electric mobility expansion.
JBM Auto Steps Up Fundraising
Alongside the reported Bain negotiations, JBM Auto’s board has approved a separate proposal to raise ₹1,500 crore from institutional investors.
JBM’s electric mobility businesses have already attracted global capital. Motilal Oswal Alternates invested ₹750 crore ($90 million) to support the deployment of 2,000 electric buses, while the International Finance Corporation committed $100 million toward scaling zero-emission public transport assets across multiple Indian states.
Strong Q1 FY27 Performance
JBM Auto reported Q1 FY27 revenue of ₹1,442.45 crore, up 15.04% year-on-year, while consolidated net profit increased 15.96% to ₹42.43 crore.
The negotiations also reflect Bain Capital’s growing interest in India’s EV ecosystem. Its backed auto-component company, Dhoot Transmission, recently launched a $322 million IPO, targeting expansion in EV battery assemblies and charging components.
If completed, the deal could strengthen JBM Auto’s capacity to execute its expanding electric bus pipeline. Bain Capital looks to drive into JBM as institutional investors increasingly target India’s EV supply chain, while Bain Capital looks to drive into JBM could become one of the sector’s notable private-equity transactions.
