Maruti Suzuki Tops EV Exports in Q1 after capturing an impressive 97% share of India’s total electric passenger vehicle exports during the April–June quarter (Q1) of FY27. The automaker exported 15,210 electric vehicles out of the country’s total 15,641 EV shipments, highlighting its growing influence in the global electric mobility market.

The achievement marks a major milestone for India’s EV manufacturing sector and reflects the company’s export-first strategy. Industry data also shows that India’s electric passenger vehicle exports increased nearly 14 times year-on-year, rising from 1,122 units in Q1 FY26 to 15,641 units in Q1 FY27, largely driven by Maruti Suzuki’s performance.

The e-Vitara Powers Global Expansion

The company’s export success is led entirely by the Maruti Suzuki eVitara, manufactured at its Hansalpur facility in Gujarat. Since its global introduction in August 2025, the electric SUV has crossed 41,000 export units and is now shipped to 47 countries worldwide.

The United Kingdom remains the largest export destination, followed by markets including Germany, Japan, Norway, Switzerland, and South Africa. During Q1 FY27 alone, Maruti Suzuki expanded its EV presence into 20 new international markets, further strengthening its global footprint.

According to Rahul Bharti, Senior Executive Officer at Maruti Suzuki India Ltd., the e-Vitara has become India’s third-largest exported passenger vehicle, behind only the Fronx and Jimny, demonstrating the strength of advanced Indian automotive manufacturing.

Export Strategy Drives Record Growth

Maruti Suzuki Tops EV Exports in Q1 by following a carefully planned export-first approach. Instead of prioritizing immediate domestic sales, the company focused on meeting international demand before expanding its Indian EV network.

Growing global fuel prices and increasing demand for cleaner mobility solutions have also supported international EV adoption, creating favorable conditions for the eVitara across Europe and other overseas markets.

The eVitara Climbs India’s Export Rankings

The company’s broader passenger vehicle export performance remains equally impressive. During Q1 FY27, the Maruti Fronx led India’s passenger vehicle exports with 23,803 units, followed by the Maruti Jimny with 21,840 units, while the e-Vitara secured third place with 15,210 units.

Maruti Suzuki also occupied six of the top eight positions among India’s most-exported passenger vehicles, reinforcing its importance in Suzuki’s global production and supply network.

Future Outlook

Maruti Suzuki Tops EV Exports in Q1 while maintaining a measured domestic EV rollout. The company plans to expand sales across India in line with the country’s charging infrastructure development. Meanwhile, competitors such as Tata Motors and Mahindra continue preparing their next-generation electric models for international markets. With strong manufacturing capabilities and rising overseas demand, Maruti Suzuki Tops EV Exports in Q1 and is well positioned to remain India’s leading EV exporter.
