Chery is preparing an electric vehicle expansion in Australia after its affordable Jaecoo J5 EV emerged as one of the market’s strongest performers. The Chinese automotive group plans to introduce the smaller Omoda 4 and larger Omoda 7 electric SUVs during 2027. These Omoda Jaecoo EV Models will build on the J5’s winning combination of competitive pricing, practical range, and generous ownership coverage.
With more than 9,000 units reportedly sold, the J5 has become Australia’s fourth-best-selling EV this year, giving Chery a strong platform to target younger customers and compete across two increasingly important electric SUV segments in the country.
Omoda Jaecoo will launch the Omoda 4 and Omoda 7 electric SUVs in Australia in 2027. Both are expected to follow the value-focused formula that helped the Jaecoo J5 EV exceed 9,000 sales.

Two New Electric SUVs Coming in 2027
The Omoda 4 will enter the competitive small-SUV category and target a younger generation of Australian buyers. The larger Omoda 7 will broaden the company’s reach into another crucial market segment.
Both will appear at Sydney’s Everything Electric conference from September 18 to 20. Their appearance should provide an indication of how Chery plans to differentiate its expanding electric range.
Why the Jaecoo J5 EV Became a Hit
The J5 arrived at a well-timed moment, only months before fuel-price increases helped accelerate Australian interest in electric cars. Its aggressive $36,990 driveaway launch price strengthened its appeal and helped it become the country’s fourth-best-selling EV this year.
Key specifications include:
- Price: Under $37,000 driveaway
- Motor: Front-mounted, producing 155 kW and 288 Nm
- Acceleration: 0–100 km/h in 7.7 seconds
- Battery: 58.9 kWh lithium iron phosphate pack
- Range: Up to 402 km under WLTP testing
- Practicality: Vehicle-to-load capability and pet-friendly cabin modes
- Coverage: Eight-year, unlimited-kilometer vehicle and battery warranties
- Ownership: Eight years of capped-price servicing
The combination creates an electric SUV package without pushing buyers into premium pricing territory. The success also reflects consumer confidence and the brand’s growing dealer network.
A Bigger Electric Push
According to Roy Munoz, chief commercial officer of Omoda Jaecoo Australia, buyers want distinctive design, advanced technology, strong value, and electrified powertrain choices. He said the two additions would give customers greater choice across important vehicle segments.
The strategy behind the next Omoda Jaecoo EV Models is therefore clear: repeat the J5’s accessible pricing and practical equipment while offering different sizes. If the Omoda 4 and Omoda 7 deliver that formula, both could rise quickly through Australia’s EV sales rankings during the second half of 2027.
What It Means for Buyers
More Omoda Jaecoo EV Models could intensify price competition and expand affordable electric SUV choice. For Chery, the launches provide an opportunity to convert one breakout success into a broader EV portfolio.
The J5 has already proved that value, usable range, and strong warranty coverage can attract mainstream buyers. The upcoming Omoda Jaecoo EV Models will now test whether that success can be repeated across multiple segments.
