Maruti Suzuki has emerged as India’s dominant electric passenger vehicle exporter, crossing 50,000 cumulative overseas shipments in less than 15 months. Driven by the Made-in-India e Vitara electric SUV, the achievement highlights India’s growing importance in Suzuki’s global EV strategy. Maruti Suzuki EV Exports Hit 50,000 as the company reports nearly 93% of India’s electric passenger vehicle exports during April–September 2026.

With vehicles reaching nearly 50 countries, particularly across Europe and Japan, the manufacturer is building international scale even as domestic EV sales remain comparatively modest. Gujarat’s Hansalpur facility sits at the center of this worldwide electric mobility expansion program.

How Many EVs Has Maruti Suzuki Exported?

Maruti Suzuki exported more than 50,000 EVs since August 2025. Its e-Vitara-led shipments represented nearly 93% of India’s electric passenger vehicle exports in April–September 2026, according to SIAM figures.

Maruti Suzuki EV Exports Hit 50,000: Key Facts

  • Export milestone: Over 50,000 electric vehicles shipped cumulatively.
  • Export market share: Nearly 93% during H1 FY2026–27, in the stated six-month period.
  • Main model: e Vitara midsize electric SUV.
  • Global reach: Nearly 50 countries; Europe is the largest destination.
  • Production base: Hansalpur, Gujarat.

e-Vitara Accelerates Global EV Expansion

The e Vitara, Suzuki’s first globally marketed battery-electric SUV, anchors the export programme. Shipments reach the United Kingdom, Germany, Norway, Switzerland and Japan. Suzuki envisages selling the vehicle in more than 100 countries, marking an early expansion.

India-market versions offer 49 kWh and 61 kWh battery options. Its rollout extends Suzuki beyond petrol and CNG vehicles.

Hansalpur: India’s Strategic EV Export Hub

Production began in August 2025 at Hansalpur, Suzuki’s exclusive manufacturing location for the e Vitara. The Gujarat facility recently expanded its total annual vehicle capacity to 10 lakh units, becoming Suzuki’s first single-site factory globally to reach that level. That includes non-EV production.

Cumulative investment stands at ₹25,288.7 crore. Hansalpur contributed approximately 47% of Maruti Suzuki’s overall overseas vehicle shipments in FY2025–26.

The facility also produces the related Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella. Toyota-badged exports are separate from Maruti’s reported milestone.

Export Dominance Versus Domestic Sales

Maruti Suzuki EV exports hit 50,000, while domestic electric-car sales remained much smaller. Reported cumulative Indian e-Vitara sales were below 12,000 units by October 29, 2026. September sales were approximately 1,100 units, against around 14,700 for Tata Motors.

Different periods prevent direct export-domestic comparisons. Still, exports underpin initial EV volumes.

Why This Matters for India’s EV Industry

Maruti Suzuki EV Exports Hit 50,000 signals several broader opportunities:

  • Global credibility: Indian-built EVs are reaching demanding European and Japanese markets.
  • Manufacturing efficiency: Export volumes can improve factory utilisation and production scale.
  • Supplier opportunities: Growth could benefit local components and electronics businesses, depending on localisation.
  • Diversification: International demand reduces reliance on India’s developing electric-car market.

With expanding global distribution and Gujarat-based manufacturing, Suzuki is positioning India as a central production base for its worldwide electric mobility ambitions. Future growth will depend on demand, competitive pricing, regulatory compliance, and resilient electric vehicle supply chains.
