Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast is preparing to expand its presence in India’s increasingly competitive affordable EV market. Its latest design patent offers an early look at a substantially refreshed VF5, a compact electric car with SUV-inspired styling and potentially attractive pricing. With sharper lighting, updated bumpers and a redesigned cabin, the facelift could strengthen VinFast’s appeal among budget-conscious buyers. VinFast VF5 Facelift Patented in India has also sparked fresh speculation about a 2027 launch, although the company has not announced a date. If introduced near ₹12 lakh, the model could directly challenge established Indian electric vehicles in this segment.
VinFast VF5 Facelift Patented in India refers to a newly filed design patent revealing revised styling and cabin upgrades. The electric car is expected to be around ₹12 lakh (ex-showroom), possibly in 2027, but neither its India launch nor its specifications have been confirmed.

New Exterior: Sharper, Cleaner, More Modern
Patent drawings resemble an uncamouflaged facelift spotted in Vietnam in September 2026. Most changes focus on the front and rear, while the compact silhouette remains.
- Front: A redesigned bonnet, lower-mounted sleeker headlights and a revised bumper create a sharper appearance. Slimmer black trim now flows into the dark lower bumper.
- Rear: Thicker connected LED taillights incorporate the reversing lamps and turn indicators, previously positioned separately within the bumper.
- Sides: The vehicle retains its compact proportions and approximately 16-inch wheels but gains a refreshed alloy-wheel design.
Inside: One Screen Replaces the Driver Display
Spy images suggest a more upright, minimalist dashboard dominated by a larger freestanding touchscreen. Unlike the outgoing cabin, the facelift appears to remove the separate driver’s instrument cluster, moving driving information onto the central screen.
A new two-spoke steering wheel has flattened upper and lower edges. The sculpted centre console houses a rotary gear selector and two cupholders, while apparent leatherette upholstery replaces fabric seats for a more premium finish.
Battery, Range and Performance
India-specific powertrains remain undecided publicly. International versions provide useful benchmarks:
- 29.6 kWh battery: Approximately 268km NEDC claimed range, around 90 hp and 135 Nm.
- 37.23 kWh battery: Approximately 326km NEDC claimed range, 136 hp, and 135 Nm.
Both configurations use front-wheel drive. These laboratory-cycle range figures are not promises of a real-world Indian driving range; final battery choices, efficiency ratings, and equipment could differ locally.
Expected Price, Launch and Competitors
The VF5 is being discussed at around ₹12 lakh ex-showroom, with 2027 viewed as a possible launch window. That could position it against the Tata Punch EV, Tata Nexon EV, and Mahindra XUV 3XO EV, depending on final pricing.
VinFast is expanding its Thoothukudi manufacturing operations in Tamil Nadu and has engaged more than 300 Indian suppliers to explore greater localization. Sourcing items such as wiring, tires, and interior trim locally could help control costs, although VF5-specific sourcing plans remain unconfirmed.
