In a major boost to sustainable transportation and renewable energy adoption, Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation Limited (CESC) inaugurated a modern electric vehicle charging facility at its corporate office in Mysuru on December 22. The initiative marks another milestone in Karnataka’s transition toward cleaner mobility, with the 30 kW EV fast-charging unit launched at CESC designed to support the growing number of electric vehicles on the road.
The upgraded charging facility is located at the CESC office premises in Vijayanagara 2nd Stage, Hinkal, Mysuru. It was formally inaugurated by Ramesh Bandisidde Gowda, CESC Chairman and MLA, in the presence of K.M. Munigopal Raju, Managing Director of CESC, along with senior officials of the corporation.

Speaking at the inauguration, Mr. Gowda highlighted the rapid increase in electric vehicle adoption and emphasized CESC’s role in encouraging eco-friendly commuting. He noted that initiatives like this would help reduce air pollution, decrease dependence on imported fossil fuels, and promote the use of green energy. The 30 kW EV fast-charging unit launched at CESC reflects the utility’s commitment to supporting India’s clean energy goals.
The newly upgraded unit replaces an earlier charging setup and now offers fast-charging capabilities of up to 30 kW. This allows two electric cars to be charged simultaneously, significantly improving convenience and efficiency. With fast-charging technology, most EVs can achieve a full charge within 40 to 45 minutes, making them suitable for office and fleet usage.
The charging station has been established in collaboration with Zion Electric (also referred to as Zhiyan Electric) and can be accessed through the Zion/Zhiyan mobile app. Currently, the facility is operational on a pilot basis and is reserved for electric vehicles used by the CESC office. Based on performance, maintenance requirements, and user feedback, the corporation will evaluate the possibility of opening the facility to the public in the future.
Managing Director K.M. Munigopal Raju stated that CESC plans to set up more EV charging stations across Mysuru city and other regions under its jurisdiction. The 30 kW EV fast-charging unit launched at CESC serves as a model for future installations aimed at expanding EV infrastructure.
Senior officials, including Technical Director D.J. Divakar, Chief General Manager (Technical) Sharanaamma S. Jangin, CFO G. Renuka, and other general managers, were present during the launch, underscoring the importance of the initiative.
With the 30 kW EV fast-charging unit launched at CESC, Mysuru takes another confident step toward a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable transportation ecosystem.
