EVgo and Regency Centers Partner to expand public electric vehicle charging across the United States, with plans to install more than 400 new fast-charging stalls at grocery-anchored shopping centers. The initiative will place reliable charging infrastructure at retail destinations where motorists already shop, dine, and complete errands.
The planned deployment will increase Regency Centers’ EV charging footprint by more than 20 percent. It builds on a relationship that began in 2020, when EVgo installed its first charger at a Regency property. Today, EVgo operates more than 150 charging stalls across the real estate company’s portfolio.
Up to 24 High-Power Chargers Per Location
Under the expanded collaboration, selected retail centers could receive up to 24 high-power chargers. Depending on the electric vehicle and charging conditions, the equipment may deliver a full charge in approximately 15 minutes, providing drivers with a practical option during shorter shopping visits.
EVgo and Regency Centers Partner at a time when convenient, publicly accessible fast charging is becoming increasingly important to EV adoption. Locating chargers at established retail hubs can make charging easier for residents, commuters, rideshare drivers, and long-distance travelers.
Rollout Planned Across Major US Markets
The new stalls are expected at Regency shopping centers in Colorado, Florida, Illinois, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Virginia, alongside additional states. However, the companies have not disclosed a precise construction or completion timeline.
More than 80 percent of Regency Centers’ properties are anchored by grocery stores, particularly in populated markets. Supermarkets and shopping centers are among drivers’ preferred charging destinations. According to data cited by the companies, half of motorists using a charging site also visit a nearby shop, restaurant, or food outlet.
Charging Where Drivers Shop and Dine
Mark Peternell, Regency Centers’ vice president of sustainability, said the expanded relationship will provide more drivers with reliable and convenient fast charging at properties they already visit for shopping and dining.
EVgo and Regency Centers Partner to combine charging expertise with strategically located retail real estate. EVgo operates more than 1,200 fast-charging stations across 47 states and works with retailers, supermarkets, restaurants, fuel stations, rideshare businesses, and autonomous-vehicle companies.
Regency Centers, an S&P 500 real estate investment trust, owns and operates shopping centers. This rollout is designed to strengthen America’s public charging network while connecting EV charging with routine consumer activity.
