Mumbai, September 2, 2026: UltraTech Cement Limited has announced a major expansion of electric mobility across its logistics network. Under the new plan, UltraTech EV Truck Fleet Scales to 600+ EV Trucks by December 2026, supporting the company’s efforts to reduce diesel consumption and decarbonize its cement supply chain.

UltraTech Cement, the cement flagship company of the Aditya Birla Group, is the world’s largest cement producer by sales volume and production capacity outside China. Its latest fleet expansion represents one of the most significant heavy-duty transport electrification initiatives announced by an Indian cement manufacturer.

UltraTech Targets 600+ Electric Trucks by December 2026

The company plans to deploy more than 600 heavy-duty electric trucks across its logistics operations before the end of 2026.

UltraTech EV Truck Fleet Scales to 600+ EV Trucks through service contracts signed with major electric prime-mover manufacturers and logistics partners. These include:

  • Tata Motors
  • Ashok Leyland
  • IPLTech
  • Energy in Motion
  • Sany
  • Their subsidiaries and third-party logistics providers

These partnerships will support the deployment and operation of electric trucks across UltraTech’s extensive cement transportation network.

Five Million Tonnes of Materials to Be Transported Annually

Once the entire fleet becomes operational, the electric trucks will transport approximately five million metric tonnes of clinker and other essential materials every year.

The vehicles will operate across seven major states:

  • Gujarat
  • Uttar Pradesh
  • Madhya Pradesh
  • Rajasthan
  • Chhattisgarh
  • Maharashtra
  • Odisha

The electrification programme will cover different stages of UltraTech’s supply chain, including the movement of raw materials from mines to manufacturing plants and the transportation of clinker and other materials between plants.

Annual CO₂ Emissions Could Fall by 1.17 Lakh Tonnes

The environmental impact of the expanded electric fleet is expected to be substantial. UltraTech estimates that the programme could deliver a net annual carbon dioxide reduction of more than 1,17,000 tonnes.

The fleet could also displace the equivalent of approximately 39 million litres of diesel annually. This would reduce UltraTech’s dependence on fossil fuels while lowering emissions generated by its large-scale road logistics operations.

In simple terms, the initiative combines three major outcomes:

  • More than 600 heavy-duty electric trucks
  • Around five million tonnes of materials transported annually
  • Over 1,17,000 tonnes of potential net CO₂ reduction every year

Green Logistics Supports UltraTech’s Net-Zero Target

Commenting on the announcement, UltraTech Cement Managing Director K C Jhanwar said the company is taking sustainability beyond its manufacturing facilities by introducing greener logistics solutions.

He explained that the large-scale transition would help UltraTech decarbonise different links across its value chain while supporting its commitment to achieving Net Zero.

The announcement demonstrates how fleet electrification can help hard-to-abate industries reduce emissions beyond factory operations. For cement manufacturers, logistics represents an important decarbonisation opportunity because clinker and other heavy materials must be transported over considerable distances.

UltraTech EV Truck Fleet Scales to 600+ EV Trucks Across Its Supply Chain

UltraTech has progressively introduced alternative-fuel and electric commercial vehicles into its logistics operations. The company began deploying compressed natural gas trucks in 2021 before introducing electric trucks in 2024.

It currently operates more than 850 vehicles under its green logistics programme, including both CNG and electric trucks. The planned addition of over 600 electric trucks will substantially increase the role of zero-tailpipe-emission vehicles in its transportation network.

UltraTech says it was the first cement company to deploy heavy-duty electric trucks at scale for the long-distance transportation of clinker and other materials. This experience is now being extended across more routes, plants, and operational regions.

Why UltraTech’s Electric Truck Expansion Matters

UltraTech operates one of India’s most extensive and complex industrial logistics networks. The company has more than 200 million tonnes per annum of grey cement capacity in India, moving clinker, raw materials, and finished products as a significant part of its operations.

Electrifying heavy-duty trucks can reduce diesel use and operational emissions, although the overall environmental benefit also depends on factors such as electricity sources, vehicle utilization, charging infrastructure, and battery lifecycle management.

Nevertheless, UltraTech’s planned scale could provide an important real-world example of how electric heavy trucks can be deployed in energy-intensive industrial supply chains.

About UltraTech Cement

UltraTech Cement is an Aditya Birla Group company and a USD 10 billion building-solutions business. It has a total grey cement production capacity of 205.5 MTPA and a white cement and putty capacity of 3.2 MTPA.

The company is a signatory to the Global Cement and Concrete Association’s Climate Ambition 2050 and has committed to the association’s Net Zero Concrete roadmap.

Final Takeaway

UltraTech EV Truck Fleet Scales to 600+ EV Trucks by December 2026 as the cement producer accelerates the electrification of its supply chain. By transporting five million tonnes of materials annually, potentially eliminating 39 million liters of diesel use and reducing net CO₂ emissions by over 1,17,000 tonnes, the programme could become a major milestone for heavy-duty electric mobility and green industrial logistics in India.
