Denza is preparing to broaden its premium SUV portfolio with an all-electric version of the spacious N8L. Designed for families, the upcoming six-seat model will offer a 208-liter powered frunk suitable for camping supplies, beach gear, and other bulky items. The announcement is clear: BYD Denza will launch the N8L EV in September, although its price, battery capacity, driving range, and powertrain specifications remain undisclosed. The electric SUV is expected to use BYD’s latest Blade Battery and flash-charging technology. With a 2+2+2 seating layout, premium chassis systems, and advanced driver-assistance features, it could become a strong contender in China’s family-SUV market.
What Will the Denza N8L EV Offer?
The announcement that BYD Denza will launch the N8L EV introduces a new choice for families seeking a spacious premium electric SUV. An official teaser confirms a 208-liter powered front trunk, or frunk, providing practical storage in addition to the conventional luggage compartment.
According to Li Hui, the washable frunk can accommodate camping supplies and beach equipment. Its covered drainage outlet allows owners to rinse away sand and dirt, making the compartment particularly useful for outdoor activities.
The vehicle is expected to retain the N8L’s substantial dimensions and 2+2+2 seating configuration. The existing PHEV measures 5,200mm long, 1,999mm wide and 1,820mm tall, supported by a 3,075mm wheelbase.
Flash-Charging Technology Expected
The news that BYD Denza is to launch the N8L EV follows the introduction of the upgraded N8L flash-charging PHEV in June. Priced from 319,800 yuan, it replaced the original model launched in October 2025 at 299,800 yuan.
The current PHEV combines an 800-volt electrical architecture with a 75.26 kWh second-generation Blade Battery. It delivers a 430km CLTC electric range and can recharge from 10 to 97 per cent in nine minutes at a dedicated Denza flash-charging station.
Denza has not confirmed whether the electric N8L will use the same battery. However, as BYD expands its second-generation Blade Battery and flash-charging ecosystem, the upcoming EV is expected to adopt related technology.
Technology and Market Position
The existing N8L offers e³ vehicle-control technology, DiSus-A body control, and the LiDAR-equipped God’s Eye 5.0 driver-assistance system. Similar premium features could help the EV compete in China’s crowded family-SUV market.
The confirmation that BYD Denza will launch the N8L EV arrives as Denza’s performance improves. July sales reached 19,196 vehicles, rising 68.76 per cent annually but declining 5.68 per cent monthly. January-July sales totalled 85,737 units, down 6 per cent year-on-year.
Ultimately, BYD Denza launching the N8L EV represents another expansion of BYD’s fast-charging portfolio. BYD operated 10,000 flash-charging stations across China by August 28 and plans to double that network before year-end, strengthening convenience for future electric-vehicle customers nationwide.
