In a significant move towards sustainable urban development and electric mobility, the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) is preparing to introduce dedicated electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in all its upcoming high-rise housing projects. The initiative is aimed at addressing the growing demand for EV charging infrastructure among residents and encouraging the adoption of electric vehicles across the city. According to LDA officials, LDA plans to install EV charging facilities as an integral part of future residential developments.
The proposal focuses on creating EV-friendly housing complexes where residents can conveniently charge their vehicles without facing infrastructure-related challenges.
Dedicated Charging Facilities in New Housing Projects
LDA Vice Chairman Prathamesh Kumar stated that the authority is currently working on a comprehensive plan to integrate EV charging stations into every proposed high-rise project. Under the proposed framework, designated spaces will be reserved specifically for charging infrastructure, ensuring that residents have easy access to charging facilities within their housing complexes.
He also indicated that private operators may be brought in to manage and maintain these charging stations, allowing for professional operation and efficient service delivery. The plan will provide residents with dedicated parking and charging spaces, making EV ownership more practical and convenient.
20% Parking Space Reserved for Electric Vehicles
One of the key highlights of the initiative is the mandatory inclusion of EV-ready infrastructure in all upcoming group housing projects. Under the new policy, 20% of parking spaces in new residential complexes must be reserved for electric vehicles and equipped with charging points from the very beginning.
This means that LDA plans to install EV charging infrastructure during the initial design and construction phase itself. By integrating charging facilities into site plans, the authority aims to eliminate future retrofitting challenges and ensure seamless EV adoption.
Addressing Concerns of EV Owners
The decision comes after several residents in private housing societies reported difficulties in installing personal charging points. In many cases, housing management committees raised objections or removed charging setups due to safety concerns and the absence of clear regulations regarding charging facilities in common parking areas and basements.
By establishing standardised infrastructure, LDA plans to install EV charging solutions that can address these concerns while ensuring safety, convenience, and compliance with urban planning guidelines.
Expansion Across Key Residential Corridors
The policy will apply to several upcoming LDA projects in prominent locations, including Gomti Nagar, Aishbagh, Basant Kunj, and residential developments along the Agra Expressway corridor. These projects are expected to set a new benchmark for sustainable housing in Lucknow.
In addition to residential developments, the authority has already established EV charging and battery-swapping stations in major public spaces such as Janeshwar Mishra Park, Lohiya Park, and Jyotiba Phule Park.

With electric vehicle adoption steadily increasing, LDA plans to install EV charging facilities to create a future-ready urban ecosystem. The initiative is expected to enhance convenience for EV owners, reduce dependence on conventional fuels, and support the government’s broader vision of promoting clean and sustainable transportation in India.
