Hyundai has unveiled an aggressive India roadmap that combines electric vehicles, SUVs, manufacturing expansion, and localization through 2030. Announced during its 2026 CEO Investor Day, the strategy includes 26 new models and updates designed to strengthen the carmaker’s position across vehicle segments. At the centre of Hyundai India EV Plans is an affordable A-segment electric SUV scheduled to arrive in the fourth quarter of 2026.

The company will also expand production, protect India’s role as a global export hub and prepare luxury brand Genesis for entry, while pursuing its worldwide target of 5.55 million annual vehicle sales by 2030.

Hyundai will introduce 26 models and updates in India by 2030, beginning with an all-new, locally developed entry-level electric SUV for Indian buyers in Q4 2026. The EV will sit below the Creta Electric and offer next-generation infotainment and Level 2 ADAS.

Affordable Electric SUV Leads the Roadmap

The first product under Hyundai India EV Plans will be a compact A-segment electric SUV developed for Indian buyers. Test vehicles have appeared on Indian roads, indicating advanced development.

Hyundai has not revealed its battery capacity, driving range, or motor output. However, pricing is expected to be supported by localization and a compact footprint. Positioned below the Creta Electric, it could give Hyundai access to a group of value-conscious electric-SUV customers.

Key confirmed and expected highlights include:

  • India-focused, locally developed architecture
  • Q4 2026 market launch
  • Next-generation infotainment system
  • Level 2 advanced driver-assistance systems
  • More accessible positioning than the Creta Electric

New Petrol and CNG SUV Under Evaluation

After the electric model, Hyundai plans to introduce a midsize combustion-engine SUV. Testing in India, it may be positioned below or alongside the Creta. The vehicle could take inspiration from the Hyundai Bayon, although changes to its design, dimensions, and features are anticipated.

Powertrains are being evaluated, including factory-fitted CNG. Such a variant would allow Hyundai to challenge Maruti Suzuki’s expanding portfolio of CNG SUVs.

Indian Production Capacity Set to Surge

Manufacturing is a pillar of Hyundai India EV Plans. Hyundai will add 3.2 lakh units of annual capacity by 2030, raising total Indian capacity to 14.3 lakh units. This contributes to its programme to add 1.27 million units.

Local content is targeted to reach 90%, supported by 1,400 domestic suppliers and 900 local engineers. India will remain an export base, with 30% of built vehicles destined for Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and South America. Its operations will maintain an annualised capacity of roughly 11 lakh units during the expansion.

Electric Three-Wheelers and Genesis Coming

Hyundai will enter electric three-wheelers with TVS Motor Company: Hyundai will design the vehicles, while TVS will manufacture them.

Luxury marque Genesis is expected to enter India in 2027, as it targets 3.5 lakh global annual sales by 2030. Overall, Hyundai plans more than 100 global models and updates across multiple powertrains. Hyundai India EV Plans therefore form part of a wider growth strategy that also targets a consolidated operating margin above 9%.
