Industrial real estate leader Prologis & PragmaCharge have announced a major partnership to develop what is expected to become Spain’s largest dedicated electric heavy-truck charging hub at MercaValencia, adjacent to the strategically important Port of Valencia. The project is designed to accelerate the adoption of electric heavy-goods vehicles (HGVs) by providing large-scale, high-power charging infrastructure for commercial fleets operating across local, regional, and international freight routes.

The charging hub is already under construction and represents a significant milestone in Europe’s transition toward sustainable freight transportation. Once fully completed, the facility will also rank among the largest dedicated EV truck charging hubs in Europe.

48 Electric Trucks Can Charge Simultaneously

The new charging facility will cover 12,500 square metres and, once the final phase is completed, will have the capacity to charge up to 48 electric heavy-goods vehicles simultaneously.

The project has been planned in two development stages:

  • Phase 1 (Q3 2026): The first stage will introduce 14 high-power charging ports, allowing commercial fleet operators to begin using the facility.
  • Phase 2 (Q1 2027): The second stage will expand the site to its full 48 charging ports, making it one of Europe’s largest dedicated heavy-duty EV charging facilities.

To support this large-scale operation, the site has secured a 4-megawatt (MW) grid connection, ensuring reliable power availability for continuous fleet charging.

Strategic Location Near the Port of Valencia

One of the project’s biggest strengths is its location. Situated at MercaValencia, next to the Port of Valencia, the charging hub serves one of Spain’s busiest logistics gateways. The port handles significant volumes of domestic and international freight, making it an ideal location for supporting electric truck operations.

As more logistics companies transition toward zero-emission transportation, access to reliable charging infrastructure close to major freight corridors becomes increasingly essential. The location offers excellent connectivity for long-haul, regional, and urban delivery fleets.

Roles of Prologis & PragmaCharge

Under the partnership, Prologis & PragmaCharge have clearly defined responsibilities to maximize operational efficiency.

Prologis will own the land, develop the site, and build the complete energy infrastructure, including the grid connection and charging facilities. Meanwhile, PragmaCharge will lease and operate the charging hub through its Electric Truck-as-a-Service (eTaaS) and Charging-as-a-Service (CaaS) business models.

The hub will also utilize PragmaCharge’s advanced dynamic charging management software to efficiently serve contracted fleet customers while supporting wider public heavy-truck charging demand.

Growing Demand for Heavy-Duty EV Infrastructure

The project comes as Europe’s electric truck market experiences rapid growth. According to the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA), electrically chargeable trucks weighing more than 3.5 tonnes represented 4.2% of the EU heavy- and medium-duty truck market in 2025, compared with 2.3% in 2024, nearly doubling within a year.

This increasing adoption highlights the urgent need for strategically located charging infrastructure in logistics hubs where transport activity, available land, grid capacity, and fleet demand naturally converge.

Industry Leaders Highlight the Importance of the Project

Anil Srivastava, CEO and Co-founder of PragmaCharge, described the project as an important milestone for Europe’s heavy-duty fleet electrification. He stated that the hub is expected to become Spain’s largest dedicated EV heavy-truck charging facility upon launch and one of Europe’s most significant charging sites once fully completed.

Melchert Duijve, Vice President of Energy Solutions Europe at Prologis, emphasized that successful fleet electrification depends on charging infrastructure being located in the right logistics markets with sufficient energy capacity and operational support. He noted that the project reflects how energy access is becoming a critical part of modern supply chains and the future evolution of logistics real estate.

A Major Step Toward Sustainable Freight Transport

The collaboration between Prologis & PragmaCharge represents a significant investment in Europe’s clean transportation future. By combining logistics real estate expertise, energy infrastructure, and advanced fleet charging solutions, the project aims to remove one of the biggest barriers to heavy-duty EV adoption. As electric trucks become more common across European freight networks, this large-scale charging hub is expected to play a crucial role in supporting reliable, efficient, and sustainable commercial transportation.
