Patna to Get 48 New EV Charging Stations under the PM E-Drive Scheme as the Bihar Transport Department accelerates efforts to strengthen the state’s electric vehicle ecosystem. The initiative aims to meet the rising demand for reliable public charging infrastructure while supporting Bihar’s clean mobility goals. The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) and several Nagar Parishads have already identified suitable land parcels and submitted them to the transport department for technical approval before installation begins.
Transport Department to Inspect and Approve Final Locations
The transport department will conduct technical inspections of all proposed sites before granting final approval. According to officials, nearly 58 locations were initially recommended, but some were found unsuitable during preliminary assessments. As a result, around 48 locations are expected to receive project clearance. The department had requested that civic bodies provide land to develop a comprehensive EV charging network across the state capital and nearby urban areas.
Strategic Charging Network Across Patna and Beyond
The Patna to Get 48 New EV Charging Stations project includes installations at high-footfall locations such as Pink City Marriage Hall, Kulharia Complex, P&M Mall basement, Subhash Park, Ambedkar Bhawan, Nala Road, Arya Kumar Road, Machhua Toli, Malahi Pakri, Medanta Hospital, Lohia Nagar Park, JP Setu, Marine Drive Golambar, and Janardan Ghat. Nagar Parishads have also submitted similar proposals in Naubatpur, Paliganj, and along the Gaya-Masaurhi road to support EV users travelling beyond Patna.
Paid Charging for Private and Commercial EVs
All approved charging stations will provide paid charging services for private and commercial electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and four-wheelers. Charging fees will be calculated on an hourly or per-minute basis, depending on the vehicle category. However, electric buses and heavy commercial vehicles are excluded from this phase because they require high-capacity chargers and dedicated transformers for high-voltage power supply.
Bihar’s Bigger EV Vision
The Patna to Get 48 New EV Charging Stations initiative aligns with the Bihar Electric Vehicle (Amendment) Policy, 2026, which targets EVs accounting for 30% of all new vehicle registrations by 2030. To improve accessibility, the transport department is also developing a unified digital platform that will display both public and private charging stations on Google Maps. Additionally, Bihar is working with oil marketing companies and transport authorities to establish more charging stations along national and state highways at petrol pumps, hotels, and dhabas, creating a wider charging network across the state. With Patna to get 48 New EV Charging Stations, Bihar is taking a significant step towards building a more accessible and future-ready EV ecosystem.
