JSW MG Unveils the ADAPT Platform, a next-generation modular vehicle architecture designed to support multiple electrified powertrains for the Indian market. The new platform marks a significant step in the company’s strategy to expand its New Energy Vehicle (NEV) portfolio with electric, hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and range extender technologies.

The company has confirmed that the first electric vehicle (EV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) based on the ADAPT architecture will be launched in India during FY2026-27.

Key Highlights—FY2026-27

  • New ADAPT modular platform unveiled for India.
  • Supports EV, HEV, PHEV, and REEV technologies.
  • First electric vehicle and plug-in hybrid confirmed for FY2026-27.
  • Advanced hybrid system with intelligent energy management.
  • Designed to improve range, efficiency, charging, and performance.
  • Expected to underpin future MG electrified SUVs in India.

A Flexible Platform for Multiple Powertrain Technologies

The newly unveiled ADAPT (Advanced Drive Architecture Platform Technology) is engineered to accommodate four different powertrain types on a single modular architecture:

  • Battery Electric Vehicles (EVs)
  • Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs)
  • Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs)
  • Range Extender Electric Vehicles (REEVs)

By using a common platform across these technologies, MG aims to simplify product development, reduce complexity, and accelerate the introduction of future electrified models.

Designed to Improve Range, Efficiency, and Safety

According to the company, the ADAPT architecture has been developed to enhance several key aspects of vehicle performance, including:

  • Driving range
  • Energy efficiency
  • Vehicle performance
  • Charging capabilities
  • Cabin refinement
  • Safety standards

The modular design also provides greater flexibility for introducing new body styles and vehicle segments in the future.

Advanced Hybrid System with Intelligent Energy Management

A major highlight of JSW MG Motor India’s ADAPT Platform is its sophisticated hybrid powertrain system. The setup combines a dedicated petrol engine, battery pack, electric drive unit, and intelligent energy management software.

The system can automatically switch between four operating modes depending on driving conditions:

1. Pure Electric Mode

City driving

Runs entirely on electric power, ideal for urban commuting and short-distance travel.

2. Series Hybrid Mode

The engine generates electricity

The engine acts as a generator while the electric motor drives the wheels.

3. Parallel Hybrid Mode

Both power sources

The engine and electric motor work together to deliver better performance and efficiency.

4. Direct Engine Drive Mode

Highway cruising

Optimized for higher-speed highway driving where direct engine power is more efficient.

Range Extender Technology for Longer Journeys

The ADAPT platform also supports Range Extender Electric Vehicle (REEV) technology. In this configuration, the vehicle is driven exclusively by an electric motor, while a petrol engine functions only as a generator to recharge the battery when required.

This allows drivers to enjoy an electric driving experience while significantly extending the vehicle’s usable range for long-distance travel.

Future MG Electrified SUVs Expected

Although the company has not officially announced the first production models based on the ADAPT architecture, industry observers expect upcoming hybrid and electric SUVs currently undergoing testing to be among the first vehicles to use the platform.

JSW MG Motor India introduces the ADAPT Platform as a core foundation for its future electrified lineup, which is expected to include next-generation SUVs with improved efficiency, performance, and advanced technology features.

What This Means for India’s EV Market

With the launch of ADAPT, MG is positioning itself to compete more aggressively in India’s rapidly expanding electric and hybrid vehicle segment. The ability to support EVs, HEVs, PHEVs, and REEVs on a single architecture gives the company greater flexibility to meet changing customer preferences and regulatory requirements.

JSW MG Motor India introduces the ADAPT Platform not only as a technological upgrade but also as a long-term strategy to accelerate the adoption of cleaner mobility solutions in India.
