Geely’s New EV Drive System is setting a new benchmark in electric vehicle technology with an impressive 93.8% comprehensive efficiency under the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC). Named the Thunder 16-in-1 Intelligent Electric Drive, the advanced powertrain integrates 16 key hardware and software functions into one compact unit, making it lighter, smarter, and more efficient than conventional EV drive systems. The technology will make its debut in the upcoming Geely Galaxy TT electric sports sedan and highlights Geely’s growing focus on next-generation electric mobility.

Compact Design Improves Performance and Space

One of the biggest advantages of Geely’s New EV Drive System is its compact engineering. The entire unit stands less than 325 mm (12.8 inches) tall and weighs only 75 kg (166 pounds). By integrating components such as the electric motor, motor controller, reducer, DC-DC converter, onboard charger, vehicle control unit, and intelligent software controls into a single package, Geely has eliminated more than 180 redundant parts.

The simplified architecture also reduces high-voltage wiring by 30% and low-voltage wiring by 15%, improving manufacturing efficiency while enhancing reliability. Thanks to its smaller footprint, the Geely Galaxy TT gains approximately 28 liters (around one cubic foot) of additional trunk space, offering better practicality without sacrificing performance.

Advanced Technology Delivers Exceptional Efficiency

Built on an advanced 800V high-voltage platform, Geely’s New EV Drive System achieves an industry-leading 93.8% efficiency, helping maximize driving range while reducing energy consumption. According to Geely, the system has achieved a Guinness World Record-verified energy consumption of just 8.20 kWh per 100 km.

The powertrain also features a 54-channel directional cooling system that lowers peak motor temperatures by 15°C, improving thermal management, durability, and sustained performance. Intelligent software continuously manages energy distribution, charging, vehicle motion, and system health to optimize efficiency under different driving conditions.

Geely Galaxy TT Packs Strong Performance

The new electric drive system will power the Geely Galaxy TT, an executive electric sports sedan measuring 196.8 inches long with a 114.9-inch wheelbase, placing it in a segment similar to premium executive sedans.

The rear-wheel-drive version produces 329 horsepower, while the dual-motor all-wheel-drive model delivers 570 horsepower (425 kW). The high-performance variant accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.8 seconds, combining sports-car performance with remarkable energy efficiency.

A Step Forward for EV Innovation

Geely’s New EV Drive System demonstrates how greater integration, lightweight engineering, and intelligent software can significantly improve electric vehicle efficiency, performance, and interior packaging. While the Galaxy TT is currently intended for the Chinese market, the innovations behind this advanced powertrain could influence future electric vehicles across the global automotive industry, reinforcing Geely’s position as a leader in EV technology.
