India’s EV Charging Leaders Unite: The electric vehicle (EV) revolution in India is gaining momentum, and a crucial piece of this puzzle is reliable, consumer-friendly charging infrastructure. Recognizing this need, the Indian Charge Point Operators Association (ICPOA), the nation’s first industry body dedicated exclusively to EV charging, has emerged as a unifying force for the sector.
Founded as a Section 8 non-profit, ICPOA aims to drive collaboration across the EV ecosystem, champion investments, shape implementable policies, and promote consumer awareness. Its mission is clear: empower consumers, strengthen infrastructure reliability, and support India’s ambitious net-zero goals. The association brings together charge point operators (CPOs), charger equipment manufacturers (OEMs), energy partners, utilities, policymakers, and technology experts, fostering an inclusive approach to advancing India’s clean mobility journey.
ICPOA unveiled its vision at its flagship event, the Bharat EV Charging Conclave 2025, held at The Lalit, New Delhi. The conclave marked a significant milestone, bringing together industry leaders and government stakeholders to deliberate on scaling a robust, nationwide EV charging network. Discussions focused on interoperability, reliability, consumer-centric services, and integrating renewable energy with EV infrastructure. Key initiatives like the Know Your Battery (KYB) program aim to educate consumers about battery safety and efficient usage, further boosting confidence in EV adoption.
Speaking at the conclave, Awadhesh Kumar Jha, Executive Director of Glida and Chairman of ICPOA, emphasized the transformative role of charging infrastructure: “Our journey began with a clear need: charging was treated as a footnote, not the foundation of EV adoption. ICPOA was created to put charging at the center of India’s mobility transition. With KYB and our commitment to reliability, we aim to make EV adoption not just viable, but irresistible for every Indian driver.”
The ICPOA alliance includes leading stakeholders such as GLIDA, ChargeZone, Zeon, EVRE, Magenta Mobility, Jio-BP Mobility, ADOR, Exicom, Tirex, Mindra, Gentari, VNT, Bright Blu, One Plug, Pulse Energy, and Plugzmart. These founding members are joined by new players in response to the rapidly evolving market, collectively working to ensure seamless roaming, standardization, and reliable charging services across India.
The Bharat EV Charging Conclave 2025 featured insightful keynote addresses, panel discussions, and research presentations. Automakers shared EV deployment experiences, utilities highlighted grid readiness and renewable integration strategies, and industry experts explored advanced technology solutions and policy frameworks. Such collaborative discussions are vital to accelerating EV adoption in India’s passenger and commercial vehicle segments, which saw over 1.5 million electric vehicles sold in FY2024, including a growing share of electric buses and four-wheelers.
As India marches toward its net-zero emissions target by 2070, the ICPOA plays a critical role in bridging gaps in infrastructure, policy, and consumer engagement. By fostering collaboration among CPOs, OEMs, energy companies, and regulators, the association aims to make EV ownership convenient, reliable, and attractive for every Indian consumer.
The formation of ICPOA is more than a milestone—it is a clarion call for industry stakeholders to unite and power the next wave of electric mobility in India. With its unwavering focus on reliability, interoperability, and consumer confidence, ICPOA is set to transform the nation’s EV landscape, driving India toward a sustainable, electrified future.
