Renault Duster EV Confirmed: Renault is gearing up to launch the all-new NuDuster in India, marking an exciting chapter for SUV enthusiasts in the country. The globally popular Duster will make its Indian debut in both traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric variants, signaling Renault’s commitment to electrification while maintaining the rugged appeal of its iconic SUV.
Globally, the Duster EV is already part of Renault’s sister brand, Dacia’s, strategic shift toward electric mobility. Dacia CEO Denis Levot confirmed that the electric Duster will be rolled out “over time,” aligning with the company’s long-term plan to phase out ICE vehicles in the UK and European markets by 2035. Currently, Dacia’s electric portfolio consists solely of the Spring EV, but plans are underway to electrify its entire lineup, including larger models like the Bigster.
The Duster EV will be built on the CMF-BEV platform, an electric-optimized variant of the CMF-B architecture used in the current petrol-powered Duster. This platform already underpins the Renault 5 and 4 crossovers, offering a robust foundation for electrification. While CMF-BEV cars are traditionally front-wheel drive, Renault has unveiled a 4×4 concept that incorporates a powered rear axle, hinting at an all-electric Duster with off-roading capabilities comparable to its ICE siblings.
The upcoming Renault Duster will also showcase notable design updates compared to the Dacia version. The front fascia has been redesigned with a more modern aesthetic, retaining the familiar grille but replacing Dacia’s diamond-shaped logo with bold “RENAULT” lettering. Despite these cosmetic changes, the vehicle’s dimensions remain similar: a length of 4,343mm, a wheelbase of 2,658mm, and a ground clearance ranging between 209mm and 217mm, ensuring the SUV retains its off-road prowess.
In India, the launch of the Duster EV is expected around 2027–2028, as Renault prioritizes the introduction of ICE and hybrid variants first. The company is also exploring local manufacturing of batteries through partnerships with Indian suppliers, which could help reduce costs and make the electric SUV more accessible to domestic buyers.
While official specifications are yet to be confirmed, reports suggest the Duster EV will feature an LFP battery pack capable of delivering a range of 350–400 kilometers on a single charge. The CMF-BEV platform supports both front-wheel drive and dual-motor all-wheel drive configurations, opening the possibility for a 4×4 electric variant that maintains the SUV’s adventurous spirit.
Once launched, the Duster EV will compete in a growing segment of electric SUVs, going head-to-head with rivals like the Hyundai Creta EV and Maruti Suzuki eVX. By offering a familiar SUV experience in an electric package, Renault aims to attract customers looking for a rugged, family-friendly, and future-ready vehicle.
