India is all set to electrify the global stage as Honda Motor transforms the country into a Honda EV manufacturing hub. With the much-anticipated Honda 0 α (Alpha) electric SUV leading the charge, this move signals a bold shift in Honda’s global EV strategy. But what makes India the center of Honda’s electric future? From cutting-edge innovation to massive export plans, this journey could redefine the country’s role in the worldwide electric mobility revolution.
Made in India, for the World
The Honda 0 α, a prototype first showcased at the Japan Mobility Show, has been developed with India and other Asian markets in mind. Production of this all-electric SUV will take place at Honda’s state-of-the-art facility in Alwar, Rajasthan. What makes this move significant is Honda’s decision to export the India-made 0 α to global markets, including Japan, showcasing India’s growing importance as a world-class manufacturing base.
Launch Timeline and Market Focus
The production version of the Honda 0 α is slated to debut in fiscal year 2026–2027, with sales commencing in both India and Japan by 2027. With this timeline, Honda aims to capture the momentum of India’s rapidly expanding EV sector. Honda’s global president, Toshihiro Mibe, and Honda Cars India CEO Takashi Nakajima have both underscored India’s vital role in the company’s corporate and investment roadmap.
Strengthening Honda’s EV Commitment
This initiative aligns with Honda’s long-term goal of achieving carbon neutrality and zero traffic collision fatalities by 2050. The company’s focus on electrification is evident across multiple fronts. In September 2025, Honda also committed a ₹600 crore investment to establish a new electric two-wheeler manufacturing plant in Narasapura, Karnataka. This facility will cater to both domestic and export markets, further reinforcing Honda’s EV leadership in India.
Part of the ‘0 Series’ Vision
The Honda 0 α is part of Honda’s all-new 0 Series — a lineup based on a dedicated EV platform built around the design philosophy of being “Thin, Light, and Wise.” This approach prioritizes efficiency, smart technology, and a human-centric driving experience.

Facing the Competition
Upon launch, the Honda 0 α will enter the competitive compact electric SUV segment in India, taking on established players such as the Hyundai Creta EV, Mahindra BE 6, and MG ZS EV.
With India becoming the manufacturing heart of Honda’s global EV operations, the 0 α could mark a transformative moment for both Honda and the country’s growing electric mobility ecosystem.
