Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority has signed an agreement with Convergence Energy Services Limited to install public electric-vehicle charging and battery-swapping facilities at five parking locations inside its port complex. Designed for freight and passenger mobility, the JNPA EV Charging Expansion will serve tractor-trailers, buses, cars, three-wheelers, and two-wheelers operating within and around the port.
The project is intended to improve access to dependable charging, reduce emissions from road-based port connectivity and encourage wider electric-vehicle adoption. It also advances JNPA’s broader strategy for greener operations, energy efficiency, and a cleaner, future-ready maritime logistics ecosystem supporting India’s fast-growing international trade network.
JNPA has partnered with CESL to install public EV charging and battery-swapping stations at five port parking locations. Serving electric trucks, buses, cars, three-wheelers, and two-wheelers, the project will improve charging access, reduce fleet downtime and emissions, support greener logistics, and advance JNPA’s December 2027 ambitious clean energy transition target.
Agreement Brings JNPA and CESL Together
The agreement was signed by JNPA Chairperson Gaurav Dayal, IAS; Deputy Chairperson Ravish Kumar Singh; and CESL Head of Convergence Rajneesh Rana. Senior officials and departmental heads from both organizations attended the signing.
CESL is a Central Government public-sector undertaking focused on green energy. Working under the Ministry of Power and the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, it promotes clean-energy adoption and sustainable mobility solutions across India.

The JNPA EV Charging Expansion combines public charging with battery swapping to address different vehicle types and operating patterns.

The project complements Energy In Motion’s second heavy-duty battery-swapping station at the Nhava Sheva Distribution Terminal. That wider network is laying the foundation for an “EV Megaplex” intended to support more than 700 electric freight trucks.
By combining fast charging with rapid battery swapping, the JNPA EV Charging Expansion could help high-throughput cargo fleets maintain productivity while moving away from fossil fuels. This hybrid infrastructure model may also become a practical benchmark for other Indian ports seeking to decarbonize freight operations.
Advancing JNPA’s Green-Port Vision
JNPA is targeting a complete energy transition by December 2027. The agreement strengthens that roadmap by embedding sustainable technology into port infrastructure.
Ultimately, the initiative supports an efficient, environmentally responsible gateway for Indian trade. It gives electric fleets support while helping build cleaner road connectivity and a resilient maritime logistics system prepared for future demands.
