In a major leap for electric mobility, Chinese battery giant Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited has unveiled a series of cutting-edge innovations at its 2026 “Super Technology Day.” The highlight: CATL Debuts an EV Battery with a 6-minute charge, redefining how quickly electric vehicles (EVs) can power up.
Next-Gen Shenxing Battery Steals the Show
The third-generation Shenxing Superfast Charging Battery delivers remarkable performance. It can charge from:
- 10% to 35% in just 1 minute
- 10% to 80% in 3 minutes 44 seconds
- 10% to 90% in 6 minutes 27 seconds
This breakthrough—central to the headline CATL Debuts EV Battery with 6-Minute charge—also performs impressively in extreme conditions. Even at −30°C, it charges from 20% to 98% in just 9 minutes.
Enhanced thermal management ensures better heat control, while durability remains strong, retaining over 90% capacity even after 1,000 full cycles.
Long-Range Innovation: Up to 1,500 KM
CATL also introduced its Qilin Condensed Battery, featuring aviation-grade technology. With an energy density of 350 Wh/kg, it enables:
- Up to 1,500 km range for sedans
- Over 1,000 km for SUVs
This innovation strengthens the impact of CATL’s debut EV Battery with a 6-minute charge, pairing ultra-fast charging with ultra-long driving range.
The battery uses a high-nickel cathode and a silicon-carbon anode, along with a titanium alloy case that significantly reduces weight and increases strength.
Qilin Battery Gets Smarter and Lighter
The third-gen Qilin Battery offers the following:
- 280 Wh/kg energy density
- Up to 1,000 km range
- 10C fast charging capability
It also reduces weight by 255 kg and improves energy efficiency by over 6%, enhancing performance and vehicle dynamics.
Sodium-Ion & Charging Ecosystem Expansion
CATL confirmed large-scale production of its Naxtra sodium-ion battery, ideal for extreme temperatures and energy storage.
Alongside this, the company unveiled an integrated charging ecosystem combining:
- Home charging
- Public fast charging
- Battery swapping
By 2026, CATL plans to deploy 4,000 integrated charge-swap stations across nearly 190 Chinese cities.
