Xiaomi is preparing to expand its electric vehicle portfolio with the launch of the Xiaomi Skynomad crossovers, a new family of Extended-Range Electric Vehicles (EREVs) designed for long-distance travel and family-focused mobility.
The company has officially confirmed that every model in the upcoming Skynomad lineup will feature a 76 kWh ternary NMC battery, enabling a maximum 505 km of pure electric driving range under the CLTC testing cycle.
The flagship Skynomad N90 will make its global public debut at the 29th Chengdu International Motor Show on August 21, 2026.

Two SUV Models Target the Family Segment
The new lineup consists of two SUVs: the Skynomad N70, a large five-seat crossover, and the premium Skynomad N90, a six-seat flagship SUV. Xiaomi describes the range as an intelligent, spacious, and reconfigurable family vehicle series aimed at combining comfort, technology, and long-distance practicality.
Unlike Xiaomi’s fully electric SU7 sedan and YU7 crossover, the Xiaomi Skynomad crossovers adopt an Extended-Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) architecture. A 1.5-liter M15DRE petrol engine, developed by Changan subsidiary Harbin Dongang, acts exclusively as a generator to recharge the battery rather than driving the wheels directly. This setup is expected to deliver a combined driving range of more than 1,500 km while eliminating range anxiety during long journeys.
Battery, Performance, and Driving Range
Every premium Skynomad model uses a 76 kWh ternary NMC battery supplied by CALB, weighing approximately 400 kg. Under China’s CLTC testing standard, the battery delivers up to 505 km of all-electric range.
Earlier filings with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) revealed that the N70 offers 370–380 km WLTC electric range, depending on drivetrain configuration, while the larger N90 delivers approximately 363 km WLTC range.
Entry-level variants receive a 52 kWh Sunwoda LFP battery, providing around 270 km WLTC electric range.
Powertrain options include:
- Rear-wheel-drive single electric motor producing 210 kW (282 hp)
- Dual-motor All-Wheel Drive system producing a combined 310 kW (416 hp)
When operating with a depleted battery, the N70 consumes 6.1–6.26 litres of fuel per 100 km, while the larger N90 records approximately 6.28 litres per 100 km.
Dimensions and Smart Interior Features
The Skynomad N70 measures 4,960 mm long, 1,998 mm wide and 1,785 mm high, with a 2,950 mm wheelbase, offering generous passenger and cargo space.
The larger Skynomad N90 measures 5,285 mm in length, 1,998 mm in width, and 1,825 mm in height, positioning it among full-size premium family SUVs.
The flagship N90 also introduces several innovative cabin features, including:
- 180-degree rotating front seats
- Flexible modular interior layout
- Spacious six-seat configuration
- “Max Camping Edition” with a pop-up roof for outdoor adventures
These features reinforce Xiaomi’s strategy of creating smart, lifestyle-oriented vehicles beyond conventional transportation.
Xiaomi’s Growth Strategy
According to China EV DataTracker, Xiaomi Auto sold 185,055 vehicles during the first half of 2026, representing a 17.2% year-over-year increase. The company has set an ambitious 550,000-unit sales target for 2026, and the Xiaomi Skynomad crossovers are expected to play a major role in achieving that goal by appealing to buyers seeking long-range, technology-rich family SUVs.
Conclusion
With up to 505 km of electric range, an EREV powertrain capable of over 1,500 km combined driving, premium interior innovations, and competitive performance, the Xiaomi Skynomad crossovers represent Xiaomi’s next major step in China’s rapidly evolving electric SUV market. The official debut of the flagship N90 at the Chengdu Auto Show on August 21 is expected to provide a closer look at one of the brand’s most important vehicle launches of 2026.
