In a groundbreaking move shaping India’s electric future, RIICO allots 65 acres to PMI Electro Mobility for a massive ₹1,200-crore e-bus manufacturing project in Rajasthan’s Ghiloth Industrial Area. This strategic investment isn’t just about building buses; it’s about driving a revolution in clean mobility. With Rajasthan emerging as a rising hub for electric vehicle innovation, this landmark initiative promises to redefine India’s transport landscape and spark a new era of sustainable industrial growth.
Powering India’s E-Mobility Future
The upcoming facility, strategically located along the Delhi-Jaipur highway in Rajasthan’s NCR region, is envisioned as a key milestone in India’s transition to sustainable transport. The project stems from an MoU signed between PMI and the Rajasthan government during the Rising Rajasthan Investment Summit, reinforcing the state’s commitment to becoming a hub for electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing.
RIICO’s allotment, made through an e-auction process, reflects the state’s proactive investment promotion strategy and its focus on clean technology-driven industries.
Massive Production Capacity
The new PMI plant will not only manufacture electric buses but also produce bodies, batteries, motors, wire harnesses, and other critical spare parts. The proposed facility will have an annual production capacity of 33,000 units, including:
- 15,000 electric buses
- 6,000 medium commercial vehicles (MCVs)
- 12,000 light commercial vehicles (LCVs)
In the initial phase, the company plans to utilise 40% of its capacity, gradually scaling up to 100% by the sixth year. The project’s projected turnover is expected to rise from ₹6,180 crore in the first year to ₹15,450 crore in the sixth year — a testament to the growing demand for EVs in India.
Economic and Environmental Impact
The ₹1,200-crore investment is expected to create over 500 direct and indirect employment opportunities, contributing significantly to Rajasthan’s industrial ecosystem. The 65.5-acre plot, valued at ₹208 crore, was officially allotted to PMI on October 14.
Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma welcomed the development, calling it a landmark moment for Rajasthan. “This is the state’s first electric bus manufacturing unit and a step toward clean mobility and pollution reduction. Rajasthan has become one of the fastest-growing investment destinations due to its transparent policies and rapid land allotments,” he said.
