China’s electric vehicle market is entering a new phase of technology competition, with automakers racing to deliver faster charging, longer range, and smarter battery management. Geely has now unveiled a next-generation charging system designed to dramatically reduce EV charging times while improving battery safety. Geely 4-Minute EV Charging can replenish a vehicle from 10% to 70% in just 4 minutes and 30 seconds under normal ambient conditions. The company says the technology can reach 97% charge in 8 minutes and 40 seconds, marking a major push into ultra-fast charging as Geely takes on increasingly aggressive charging technology from BYD.
How Fast Can Geely Charge an EV?
Geely’s new system can charge an EV from 10% to 70% in 4.5 minutes and from 10% to 97% in 8 minutes and 40 seconds. Its charging infrastructure supports power of up to 2,250 kW (2.25 MW) per charging gun.
2.25 MW Charging Power Targets Record Speeds
The new system combines a high-rate battery with powerful charging infrastructure. Real-world tests on vehicles, including the Lynk & Co 10 and Zeekr 001, demonstrated a 10%-70% charging recovery in 4 minutes and 30 seconds.
The company’s smart charging stations can deliver up to 2,250 kW, putting Geely firmly into the megawatt-level charging race. The technology is designed to reduce charging stops and address one of the biggest concerns surrounding EV ownership: charging time.

AI Takes Charge of Battery Safety
Extreme charging power creates significant thermal and safety challenges. Geely is therefore integrating artificial intelligence across cloud-based and vehicle-level systems.
Its Xingrui PowerMind energy model uses thermal prediction algorithms to forecast battery temperatures up to 30 seconds ahead. Geely says the system helps maintain average battery temperatures below 55°C during high-power charging.
Cloud-based digital-twin simulations and deep-learning models deployed directly inside vehicles are also designed to monitor battery health, manage thermal control, and identify potential safety risks.
Geely vs. BYD: The Charging Race Intensifies
Geely 4-Minute EV Charging arrives as BYD continues expanding its own flash-charging technology. BYD’s latest system can reportedly charge an EV from 10% to 97% in about nine minutes, with charging infrastructure ranging from roughly 1,000 kW to 1,500 kW.
Geely’s claimed figures put its new system at 4.5 minutes for 10%-70% charging and 8 minutes 40 seconds for 10%-97%, while its maximum charging power reaches 2.25 MW.
Galaxy E5 Gets the New Battery Technology
Geely plans to introduce its next-generation battery technology in an upgraded Galaxy E5 pure-electric SUV later this year. The move comes as the company seeks to strengthen its position in China’s highly competitive EV market, where sales declined for 11 consecutive months through August.
What Comes Next for EV Charging?
Geely says charging speeds are already approaching physical limits, meaning future improvements may deliver increasingly smaller gains. Geely’s 4-minute EV Charging nevertheless highlights how EV competition is shifting toward ultra-fast charging, intelligent battery management, and high-power infrastructure.
The company also expects future charging networks to increasingly resemble petrol stations, with infrastructure shared across multiple vehicle brands. Geely believes broader industry participation could accelerate the global expansion of fast-charging networks.
