Pune EV registrations surge 39% in H1 2026, highlighting the city’s accelerating transition toward sustainable mobility. According to Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) data, 21,024 electric vehicles were registered between January and June 2026, compared to 15,117 registrations during the same period in 2025. The addition of 5,907 new EVs represents a 39% year-on-year increase and has pushed Pune’s total registered electric vehicle count beyond the 1.6 lakh milestone.

Electric Two-Wheelers Continue to Lead Growth

The Pune EV registrations surge 39% in H1 2026 trend has been driven primarily by electric two-wheelers, which account for more than 1.25 lakh of the city’s total EV registrations. Electric three-wheelers have also contributed significantly to the growth, while passenger electric cars continue to gain popularity as more buyers move away from conventional petrol and diesel vehicles. This strong momentum reinforces Pune’s role in helping Maharashtra remain India’s second-largest electric vehicle market.

Why EV Adoption Is Rising in Pune

Several factors are supporting the rapid increase in electric vehicle adoption. Rising petrol, diesel, and CNG prices have made EVs a more cost-effective option for daily commuting. Concerns over crude oil supplies due to geopolitical tensions in West Asia have further strengthened consumer interest in electric mobility. At the same time, expanding public charging infrastructure, improved manufacturer after-sales support, and a wider selection of affordable and premium EV models from Tata Motors, Mahindra, Bajaj, and TVS have reduced range anxiety and boosted buyer confidence.

Registrations Cross 3,000 Per Month

The Pune EV registrations surge 39% in H1 2026 momentum has gathered pace since February, with monthly registrations consistently exceeding 3,000 units after previously averaging between 2,000 and 2,500. Deputy Regional Transport Officer Swapnil Bhosale attributed the growth to better charging infrastructure, lower operating costs, and growing public awareness about sustainable transportation. He added that if the current trend continues, Pune EV registrations surging 39 percent in H1 2026 could mark the beginning of an even stronger phase of EV adoption, keeping Pune among Maharashtra’s leading electric mobility hubs.
