India’s transition toward sustainable logistics has taken a significant step forward as C J Darcl & NHEV Partner to accelerate heavy electric freight transportation and the deployment of charging infrastructure across the country. The collaboration focuses on developing electric truck operations, advanced charging stations, and zero-emission freight corridors that support India’s clean mobility goals.
MoU to Accelerate Electric Freight Transportation
Business-to-business logistics company CJ Darcl Logistics has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Highways for Electric Vehicles (NHEV) to jointly evaluate and deploy heavy electric vehicle (HEV) freight operations on India’s upcoming Zero Emission Truck (ZET) e-highways.
The partnership is designed to create a commercially viable and scalable electric freight ecosystem by combining logistics expertise with dedicated EV infrastructure. Through this initiative, CJ Darcl & NHEV Partner to strengthen India’s low-carbon transportation network while improving the efficiency of long-distance freight movement.

Bengaluru-Chennai Corridor Chosen as Pilot Route
The first phase of the collaboration will focus on the Bengaluru-Chennai highway corridor, which has been selected as the pilot route for heavy electric freight operations.
The corridor will serve as a testing ground for future nationwide expansion by assessing operational performance, charging requirements, fleet utilization, and commercial feasibility. If successful, the model could be replicated across major freight corridors throughout India.
Integrated 3G Energy Stations to Support Electric Trucks
A key highlight of the agreement is the development of NHEV’s integrated 3G Energy Stations. These facilities will provide a complete ecosystem for heavy electric trucks, including:
- High-capacity EV charging infrastructure
- Battery swapping facilities
- Solar-powered energy integration
- Dedicated warehousing
- Strategically located logistics hubs
This integrated approach is expected to reduce downtime, improve fleet efficiency, and make electric freight operations more practical for long-distance transportation.
Focus on Commercially Viable Green Logistics
The partnership supports India’s efforts to build future-ready logistics while reducing carbon emissions from freight transportation.
According to CJ Darcl Logistics President Nikhil Agarwal, the collaboration is not simply about adopting electric vehicles but about creating a scalable business model that demonstrates how India’s logistics sector can lead the global energy transition. He described the Bengaluru-Chennai corridor as the ideal location to establish a blueprint for nationwide expansion.
Fleet Management and Driver Training Included
As part of the agreement, CJ Darcl will collaborate with professional logistics service providers to manage heavy electric vehicle fleets, train drivers, and develop end-user operations.
These measures are intended to ensure smooth implementation and enable electric freight services to scale efficiently from the beginning.
NCR Trailer Exchange Model to Ease EV Adoption
Another important feature of the collaboration is the proposed NCR trailer-exchange model at Delhi’s borders.
This system will allow diesel-powered trucks to transfer trailers to heavy electric trucks, ensuring uninterrupted freight movement while reducing emissions in urban areas. The pay-per-use vehicle interchange model is expected to lower investment barriers, improve operational efficiency, and accelerate the adoption of electric freight mobility.
Driving India’s Green Highway Vision
Both organizations will jointly identify heavy electric vehicle manufacturers, establish industry operating standards, and support policy and infrastructure reforms needed for widespread EV freight deployment.
NHEV Program Director Abhijeet Sinha stated that CJ Darcl’s logistics expertise makes the company an ideal partner to evaluate heavy electric vehicle deployment alongside the rollout of EV infrastructure. He added that the collaboration highlights how government-supported public-private partnerships can accelerate green highways and decarbonize India’s transportation sector.
With this strategic initiative, C J Darcl & NHEV Partner to create a sustainable, efficient, and scalable electric freight ecosystem that could redefine long-distance logistics in India. As heavy electric trucks and dedicated charging infrastructure continue to expand, C J Darcl & NHEV Partner are laying the foundation for cleaner highways and a greener future for the country’s logistics industry.
