Charging an electric vehicle at home is usually simple, but daily life can make cables feel inconvenient—especially in bad weather or for elderly and differently abled drivers. With its latest innovation, Porsche Brings Wireless EV Charging closer to reality, eliminating plugs, cords, and physical strain while redefining premium EV convenience.
The Big Debut: When and Where It Launches
Porsche’s 11 kW wireless EV charging system will be available to consumers starting in 2026. The rollout begins in Europe, followed by the United States and other global markets. This groundbreaking technology will debut as an optional feature on the all-electric Porsche Cayenne Electric, which is scheduled for its world premiere at the end of 2025.
Importantly, the Cayenne Electric will be the first Porsche model compatible with this system. Buyers must select the “Porsche Wireless Charging Preparation” during vehicle ordering, as the system cannot be retrofitted later.

How the Wireless Charging System Works?
At the heart of this innovation is inductive charging—a concept over a century old, now refined for a 108 kWh EV battery. A floor-mounted charging plate transfers energy wirelessly through a magnetic field to a receiver unit mounted in the vehicle.
The charging pad converts household electricity into high-frequency AC, generating an 85 kHz magnetic field that bridges a 12–18 cm air gap. Inside the vehicle, the energy is converted back into DC power and fed directly into the battery. Despite this gap, efficiency reaches up to 90 percent, close to traditional plug-in charging.
Key Features and Specifications
The system delivers up to 11 kW of power, comparable to Level 2 AC charging. Once parked correctly and the parking brake is engaged, charging starts automatically. Alignment assistance is provided through the Surround View system and the My Porsche app.
Safety is a major focus. The charger instantly stops if it detects foreign or living objects, such as pets or metallic items. The weatherproof, 50 kg charging plate is certified for outdoor use and can even melt snow, reaching temperatures up to 50°C.
Convenience Meets Real-World Use
With most Porsche EV owners charging primarily at home, this system is designed for daily practicality. A Cayenne Electric can charge from 10 to 80 percent in about 7.5 hours—without plugging in a cable. That’s where Porsche Brings Wireless EV Charging into everyday luxury living.
Pricing and Final Thoughts
In Europe, the system is expected to cost around €7,000, with U.S. pricing yet to be announced. Installation services will be offered through Porsche. As Porsche Brings Wireless EV Charging to market, it signals a major step toward a truly seamless EV future—one where parking is all it takes to power up.
