Mercedes-Benz is preparing to expand its electric vehicle portfolio in India with the upcoming launch of its next-generation premium compact SUV. Mercedes-Benz confirms the GLB EV for India as the company’s latest electric offering, marking a major shift from previous plans that focused only on internal combustion engine (ICE) models. The new electric SUV will arrive in India as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) import.
New Mercedes-Benz GLB EV based on advanced MMA platform
Mercedes-Benz India Managing Director and CEO Santosh Iyer has officially confirmed the arrival of the new-generation GLB EV in the Indian market. The electric SUV is developed on the company’s advanced 800V Mercedes-Benz Modular Architecture (MMA) platform, which is designed specifically for next-generation electric vehicles.
Globally, the GLB EV is available with two powertrain options. The entry-level GLB 250+ comes with a single electric motor producing 272 hp and 335 Nm of torque, while the performance-focused GLB 350 4Matic features a dual-motor setup generating 353 hp and 515 Nm of torque.
Both variants use an 85 kWh high-voltage lithium-ion battery pack, delivering strong performance and long-distance driving capability.

Mercedes-Benz GLB EV offers up to 631 km range and ultra-fast charging
The biggest highlight of the upcoming electric SUV is its impressive range and charging technology. The single-motor GLB 250+ delivers a WLTP-certified range of up to 631 km on a single charge, making it suitable for long-distance journeys.
With its advanced 800V electrical architecture, the SUV supports DC fast charging speeds of up to 320 kW. Mercedes claims that compatible high-power chargers can add around 260 km of driving range in just 10 minutes.
Futuristic design with premium Mercedes luxury
The new-generation GLB EV introduces a modern and futuristic exterior design. It features a large closed-off front grille with an illuminated star pattern, connected LED lighting elements, and flush-fitting retractable door handles that improve aerodynamics.
Inside, the electric SUV gets Mercedes’ advanced MBUX Superscreen setup, featuring a 14-inch central touchscreen, a 10.25-inch digital driver display, and an additional passenger-side display.
Mercedes-Benz confirms the new-gen GLB EV will also bring premium cabin features, including an electrochromic panoramic glass roof with illuminated stars, a Burmester 3D sound system with Dolby Atmos, and AI-powered voice assistance for an enhanced digital experience.
Seven-seat layout and advanced safety technology
The upcoming GLB EV will offer flexible cabin configurations with both five-seat and seven-seat layouts. It is expected to replace the current EQB model while providing improved technology, practicality, and electric performance.
Safety will be supported by the latest MB.DRIVE advanced driver assistance system (ADAS). The system uses a water-cooled central computer supported by eight cameras, five radar sensors, and 12 ultrasonic sensors to provide enhanced driver assistance features.
Expected launch and price in India
Mercedes-Benz has not yet announced the official launch date of the new GLB EV in India. However, considering its CBU import route and premium positioning, industry estimates suggest that the electric SUV could arrive with an expected price of around ₹80 lakh (ex-showroom).
Mercedes-Benz confirms the new-gen GLB EV as an important addition to India’s growing luxury EV segment, competing with premium electric SUVs by offering advanced architecture, high-speed charging, extended range, and three-row practicality.
As India’s luxury EV market continues to expand, the new GLB EV could become a key model for Mercedes-Benz’s future electric mobility strategy. Mercedes-Benz confirms new-gen GLB EV as the brand moves closer toward an all-electric future with next-generation technology and premium design.
