As India accelerates toward an electric future, a major shift is unfolding in the country’s mobility landscape. In a bold move, Maruti Suzuki plans 1 lakh EV charging stations across India, signalling a transformative leap in nationwide EV readiness. This ambitious mission arrives just as the company gears up to launch its first all-electric SUV, the EVitara — a step that not only strengthens its EV strategy but also sparks fresh curiosity about what lies ahead for millions of future EV users.

A Strategy Built on Customer Confidence, Not Just Sales

According to Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer – Marketing & Sales, Maruti Suzuki’s approach to the EV segment is rooted in customer trust. He emphasised that the company would focus on building confidence before chasing sales numbers.
“We believe EV confidence comes before EV numbers. Winning customer trust matters more than pushing sales,” he said.

To address range anxiety, one of the biggest barriers to EV adoption, the company extensively tested its EV capabilities across India’s extreme locations — from Kanyakumari to Srinagar, and from Bhuj to Kaziranga. Maruti Suzuki also has access to nearly 70% of India’s fast chargers, ensuring strong ecosystem support for early adopters.

Aggressive Nationwide Charging Network Expansion

Maruti Suzuki aims to create one of India’s most extensive charging networks through:

  • 1 lakh public EV charging points by 2030
  • Partnerships with 13 leading Charge Point Operators (CPOs)
  • Strategic placement of chargers every 5–10 km across the top 100 cities
  • Dense coverage on key corridors, such as the Delhi–Chandigarh route, where 63 chargers are already installed

As of December 2025, the company has already set up 2,000+ exclusive charging points in 1,100+ cities, showing strong early progress.

Investment and Technological Ecosystem

Maruti Suzuki has invested around ₹250 crore in expanding its EV charging infrastructure through its extensive dealer network. As part of its digital integration efforts, it has launched a unified EV platform — the ‘e for me’ mobile app, allowing users to locate, access, and pay for charging stations, including both Maruti-exclusive and partner CPO chargers.

Moreover, 1,500+ workshops have been made EV-ready, supported by a massive, skilled workforce of 1.5 lakh trained technicians, ensuring reliable service availability nationwide.

EVitara: Built on a Pure Electric Platform

The upcoming EVitara, built on a dedicated EV architecture, is certified by ARAI with a range of 543 km. The model has already garnered global interest after its strong international debut, with bookings opening in Japan and a positive response in the UK.

Maruti Suzuki deliberately waited to launch the EVitara in India until infrastructure and customer readiness aligned — a testament to the company’s long-term commitment to India’s EV transition.
