Swiggy Instamart is strengthening its electric mobility strategy with a battery-swapping initiative aimed at making last-mile delivery faster, more affordable, and practical. The quick-commerce platform has partnered with Yulu and Yuma Energy to address two persistent barriers to EV adoption: vehicle affordability and charging-related downtime. Instamart expands EV Battery Swapping Infrastructure by bringing swapping stations closer to dark stores where riders operate.

The initiative combines faster energy access with rental incentives, supporting delivery partners while advancing the shift from petrol-powered vehicles to electric two-wheelers. It also forms part of a wider effort to build an efficient and sustainable delivery ecosystem.

Instamart is expanding EV battery swapping with Yuma Energy at its dark stores while partnering with Yulu on rental cashback. The move aims to cut rider downtime, lower EV adoption costs, and accelerate electric last-mile delivery.

Instamart Expands EV Battery Swapping Infrastructure

Under the initiative, Yuma Energy will install battery-swapping stations at Instamart PODs, which serve as dark stores and micro-fulfilment centres. The first integrated station was inaugurated at an Instamart POD in Bengaluru earlier this month.

Riders can swap batteries close to their regular hubs instead of travelling to separate charging locations. Yuma Energy operates more than 2,000 battery-swapping units across its network, with each swap taking less than two minutes.

Up to 60 Minutes Saved Daily

Instamart delivery partners typically travel more than 90 km per day and generally require two battery swaps. Locating swapping stations at operational hubs can save riders up to 60 minutes daily.

Key benefits include:

  • Swaps completed in under two minutes
  • Up to 60 minutes of potential daily time savings
  • Easier energy access for high-mileage riders
  • Reduced charging-related downtime during busy delivery shifts and peak quick-commerce operating hours

Yulu Partnership Tackles EV Costs

Instamart is also addressing affordability through its collaboration with Yulu. Delivery partners using Yulu electric two-wheelers can access rental cashback incentives.

Launched in May 2026, the programme has already benefited thousands of delivery partners. Participating riders have been able to reduce their EV rental expenses by up to 30%, while also lowering dependence on fluctuating petrol prices.

Wider Push for Electric Deliveries

Instamart Expands EV Battery Swapping Infrastructure as part of a broader sustainability effort. Swiggy and Instamart are currently working with more than 50 EV partners across India to move delivery fleets away from petrol-powered vehicles.

Anant Choudhary, VP, Driver & Delivery Org, Instamart, said the next phase of EV adoption requires accessible vehicles, lower operating costs, and less charging downtime. Deepak Nanwani, Head of Revenue and Operations at Yuma Energy, similarly emphasized affordability, uptime, and energy access as factors affecting a rider’s earning opportunity.

Instamart Expands EV Battery Swapping Infrastructure through a combined approach covering battery access, EV rental support, and operational infrastructure.

As battery swapping becomes more closely integrated with quick-commerce hubs, the initiative could help reduce downtime and make electric last-mile delivery more accessible.
