Gurugram is taking another decisive step toward sustainable urban mobility as the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) moves ahead with plans to strengthen electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure across the city. As part of its clean mobility push, Gurgaon is set to add 20 EV charging stations at markets, focusing on locations that see high daily footfall and public activity.
A Strategic Push for Green Mobility
As of January 2026, MCG has announced the addition of 20 new EV charging stations at major markets and community centres. This initiative is designed to improve access to charging infrastructure for residents and reduce one of the key barriers to EV adoption—charging availability. Officials believe this expansion will encourage more citizens to shift from conventional fuel vehicles to electric alternatives.
Public-Private Partnership with CESL
To implement the project, MCG has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL), a central government agency. Under the agreement, CESL will handle installation, electricity connections, daily operations, and long-term maintenance of the charging stations. Importantly, the entire project places no financial burden on the civic body, making it a cost-effective model for sustainable development.

According to MCG’s Annual Clean Air Plan for FY 2025–26, the city identified a gap of 20 EV charging stations as of December 31, 2025. The goal is to make all new stations operational by December 31, 2026.
