When it comes to innovation, France is setting a new global benchmark. France Unveils the World’s First Wireless Charging Highway for EVs, a revolutionary step that allows electric vehicles to charge while driving! Located near the A10 motorway outside Paris, this 1.5-kilometer pilot stretch promises to redefine the future of mobility, eliminate range anxiety, and make sustainable transportation more seamless than ever. Could this be the beginning of limitless EV travel?

How the Technology Works

The wireless charging highway uses inductive charging technology developed by the Israeli company Electreon. Copper coils are embedded beneath the asphalt, creating a magnetic field that transfers energy directly to EVs equipped with compatible receiving coils on their undersides. This allows vehicles to charge dynamically, eliminating the need to stop for plug-in charging sessions.

Impressive Power and Performance

According to independent tests, the system delivers an average power output of over 200 kW, with peak bursts reaching 300 kW — a level comparable to some of the fastest static EV chargers available today. What makes this technology even more remarkable is its ability to charge multiple vehicle types simultaneously, from passenger cars to buses and heavy-duty trucks.

Solving Range Anxiety and Battery Limitations

One of the biggest challenges facing EV adoption is range anxiety — the fear of running out of charge before reaching a destination. France’s dynamic charging solution directly addresses this issue, allowing vehicles to recharge while in motion. This innovation could pave the way for smaller, lighter, and more affordable batteries, particularly benefiting commercial fleets that operate long distances daily.

The Road Ahead

The French Ministry for Ecological Transition envisions a future where this technology spans the nation’s major routes. If the current trial proves successful, the government plans to expand the network to nearly 9,000 kilometers of “electric roads” by 2035. Such an achievement would not only revolutionize EV travel in France but also serve as a model for global transportation infrastructure.

A Milestone in Smart Mobility

By integrating cutting-edge charging technology into its highways, France has positioned itself as a global leader in smart transportation and clean energy innovation. The world’s first wireless charging highway is more than a technological marvel — it’s a glimpse into a future where electric mobility is seamless, efficient, and truly sustainable.
