The global electric vehicle industry is witnessing rapid advancements in battery technology, especially in the commercial transportation segment, where charging time, durability, and operational efficiency remain major challenges. CATL launches 8C ultra-fast charging battery technology to address these challenges by introducing a next-generation battery solution designed specifically for light commercial electric vehicles (LCEVs). The new battery promises charging speeds comparable to conventional fuel refueling, helping fleet operators improve productivity and reduce downtime.

CATL Introduces Tianxing II Ultra-Fast Charging Battery for Light Commercial EVs

Chinese battery giant CATL has officially unveiled the Tianxing II (also known as Tectrans II) Ultra-Fast Charging Edition, developed exclusively for light commercial electric vehicles. The battery is claimed to be the industry’s first commercial EV battery capable of achieving an 8C peak charging rate.

According to CATL, the advanced battery can charge from a 20% to 80% state of charge (SOC) in just 6 minutes and 48 seconds, while a complete 100% charge takes only 8 minutes and 56 seconds. This breakthrough charging capability is aimed at solving one of the biggest barriers for electric logistics vehicles — long charging waiting times.

With this innovation, CATL launches 8C ultra-fast charging battery technology that allows electric delivery vans and light trucks to spend less time connected to chargers and more time operating on roads.

Faster Charging Without Compromising Battery Life

Frequent ultra-fast charging has traditionally raised concerns about battery heating and faster degradation. CATL has developed several technological improvements to overcome these limitations.

The company has reduced the internal resistance of battery cells by nearly 50% compared with the industry average. Lower resistance helps reduce heat generation during high-speed charging cycles, improving efficiency and battery reliability.

CATL has also introduced atomic-level interface restructuring technology for graphite particles inside the battery cells. This innovation helps reduce active lithium loss, slows capacity degradation, and improves long-term durability.

For commercial fleet operators, the battery comes with a warranty coverage of up to 10 years or 1 million kilometres, making it suitable for intensive daily operations such as urban delivery, logistics transportation, and commercial mobility services.

Strong Performance Even in Extreme Cold Weather

Cold temperatures are another major challenge affecting electric vehicle battery performance. CATL claims the Tianxing II Ultra-Fast Charging Edition maintains strong charging efficiency even in freezing conditions.

At temperatures as low as -20°C, the battery requires only an additional 2 minutes and 30 seconds for charging compared with normal operating conditions. The company has achieved this performance through advanced self-heating pulse technology.

This focus on temperature resilience follows CATL’s broader battery development strategy, including sodium-ion battery technology designed to maintain performance across extreme temperature ranges.

CATL Expands Ultra-Fast Charging and Battery Swap Infrastructure

To support the adoption of its commercial EV battery technology, CATL is developing an integrated ultra-fast charging and battery-swapping network in China.

The company plans to establish 4,000 integrated charging and swapping stations across nearly 190 cities by 2026. These stations will support both passenger vehicles and commercial electric vehicles.

The infrastructure will include charging systems optimized for light commercial vehicles, featuring longer and more flexible cables designed around the charging port positions of delivery vans and light trucks.

CATL also has long-term plans to expand this network to 10,000 stations in the medium term and 30,000 locations eventually, including international markets such as Europe.

A Major Step Toward Faster Commercial EV Adoption

The launch represents a significant milestone for the electric logistics industry, where vehicle utilization and charging speed directly impact business efficiency. By combining ultra-fast charging, improved battery durability, and expanded charging infrastructure, CATL aims to make electric commercial vehicles more practical for large-scale fleet operations.

The introduction of this technology highlights how battery innovation is moving closer to eliminating charging-related limitations in commercial transportation. CATL launches 8C ultra-fast charging battery as a solution that could accelerate the transition from traditional fuel-powered logistics vehicles to cleaner electric alternatives.
