Ferrari has officially entered the electric vehicle era with the launch of the Ferrari Luce, a luxury electric grand tourer that combines cutting-edge technology, breathtaking performance, and iconic Italian craftsmanship. What makes this debut even more remarkable is that Ferrari’s first EV is designed by the man behind some of Apple’s most famous products, Sir Jony Ive, who worked alongside renowned designer Marc Newson and their creative collective, LoveFrom.
A Bold New Direction for Ferrari
The Ferrari Luce marks a major shift for the legendary sports car manufacturer. It is Ferrari’s second-ever four-door vehicle and its first five-seater model, making it more practical while retaining the brand’s performance-focused DNA. Developed over five years in collaboration with Ferrari’s Centro Stile design team in Maranello, the vehicle introduces a fresh design language that breaks away from traditional Ferrari styling.
Unique exterior elements include retractable door handles and taillights that remain hidden until the vehicle is powered on. These futuristic touches help distinguish the Luce from any Ferrari that came before it.
Luxury Meets Minimalist Design
One reason Ferrari’s first EV is designed by the man who created the iPhone has generated so much attention is its innovative interior. Rather than relying on oversized touchscreens, the cabin embraces an “anti-screen” philosophy focused on tactile controls.
The interior features precision-machined aluminum switches, physical knobs, and traditional controls designed to keep drivers engaged with the road. Two advanced Samsung-developed OLED displays provide digital functionality, including a center infotainment screen that can be adjusted toward the driver. A layered OLED gauge cluster, a reimagined analog-inspired steering wheel made from recycled aluminum, and a unique Gorilla Glass key with an integrated E-Ink display further elevate the experience.
Supercar Performance with Electric Power
While the design focuses on elegance and simplicity, performance remains unmistakably Ferrari. The Luce is powered by four independent electric motors producing up to 1,050 horsepower with launch control activated. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 310 km/h.
The vehicle uses an advanced 800-volt architecture and a 122 kWh battery pack, delivering more than 530 kilometers of range and supporting ultra-fast charging technology.
Ferrari’s Electric Future Takes Shape
The fact that Ferrari’s first EV is designed by the man responsible for some of the world’s most influential consumer products highlights Ferrari’s ambition to redefine electric luxury. Despite uncertainty in the high-performance EV market, Ferrari remains committed to electrification and plans to expand its EV lineup in the coming years.
