Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast is preparing to challenge India’s established electric two-wheeler brands with a scooter designed around everyday local commuting needs. Its fifth Indian two-wheeler design patent, originally filed in April 2026, reveals a practical model featuring larger wheels, conventional suspension, and cost-conscious engineering. The VinFast Electric Scooter India new patent suggests the company is moving beyond adapting overseas products and considering a model tailored to Indian roads and budgets.
With dealership agreements underway, VinFast’s next move could intensify competition against TVS, Bajaj, Ather and Ola Electric. However, specifications, pricing and launch plans remain unconfirmed.

What Does the Patent Reveal?
The latest filing depicts a possible India-specific electric scooter with 14-inch wheels, a rear hub motor and traditional suspension. It is a design patent, not confirmation of production or launch.
Practical Design Takes Priority
Unlike VinFast’s sportier international scooters, the new design adopts understated styling. Patent illustrations reveal several commuter-friendly details:
- Front styling: A horizontal headlamp, integrated indicators, and VinFast branding.
- Wheels: Apparent 14-inch rims, potentially improving stability on uneven roads.
- Suspension: Telescopic front forks and twin rear shock absorbers.
- Motor: A likely rear hub-mounted unit, offering simpler packaging and potentially lower manufacturing costs.
- Dashboard: An exposed handlebar with a digital instrument cluster, possibly LCD or TFT.
- Storage: A thick floorboard could conceal the battery, freeing under-seat space, although the rear shape may limit capacity.
- Convenience: A physical ignition key instead of keyless operation.
These details suggest practicality, but patent drawings cannot establish final equipment or performance.
Why India Needs a Different Scooter
The VinFast Electric Scooter India new patent fits the company’s stated intention to create models specifically for local customers.
In January 2026, VinFast Asia chief executive Pham Sanh Chau described plans for India-focused scooters and two-wheeler production at its Tamil Nadu facility. The company’s ambition to reach one million units of capacity is long-term, not an immediate output commitment.
More Scooters, More Segments
VinFast has also patented designs linked to its portfolio, including the sporty Viper, the Rasad maxi-scooter, and a motorcycle concept associated with Sulad. The Viper uses a 3kW hub motor and swappable LFP batteries in overseas specifications, while Rasad targets premium riders.
This broader portfolio may allow VinFast to address affordable commuting alongside sporty and premium segments.
Dealers and Charging Plans Expand
On October 8, VinFast announced letters of intent with more than 50 dealer partners, covering showrooms in 34 cities across 15 Indian states and territories.
The company is developing charging and after-sales support. Its Vietnamese battery-swapping experience may inform Indian plans, although a comparable local network is not confirmed.
When Will It Launch?
The new patent for the VinFast Electric Scooter India offers an early indication of product direction, not a confirmed showroom arrival.
Battery capacity, range, motor power, charging time, price and launch date remain undisclosed. The new VinFast Electric Scooter India patent could eventually underpin an affordable challenger, but its real competitiveness will depend on production specifications, ownership costs, and service reliability.
