The United Arab Emirates has once again demonstrated its commitment to sustainable transportation, securing the top position in electric vehicle (EV) sales across the Middle East for the second consecutive year. According to the International Energy Agency’s (IEA) Global EV Outlook 2026 report, the UAE leads the Middle East in EV sales, accounting for nearly 50 percent of all EV sales in the region.
This remarkable achievement highlights the country’s rapid transition toward green mobility and reinforces its reputation as a regional hub for future transportation technologies. The strong performance reflects growing consumer confidence in electric vehicles, expanding infrastructure, and government-led initiatives aimed at accelerating the shift toward cleaner transportation.
National EV Policy Driving Growth
A major factor behind this success is the National Electric Vehicles Policy, launched by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure in 2023. The policy was designed to increase EV adoption, expand charging infrastructure, and attract investment in sustainable mobility solutions.
The initiative supports broader national goals, including the UAE Energy Strategy 2050 and the Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative. Through these efforts, the government aims to create a smart, efficient, and environmentally friendly transportation ecosystem.
Expanding Charging Infrastructure
The UAE has significantly improved its EV infrastructure by establishing more than 2,300 public charging points across the country. In addition, the launch of the UAEV national charging network represents a strategic step toward creating a comprehensive charging system that supports widespread EV adoption.
