In a landmark milestone for India’s sustainable mobility landscape, Tezpur University Signs MoU with Hyundai Motor Company, Seoul. Executed in New Delhi, this pact marks Tezpur University’s first major industry-sponsored research collaboration with a premier global automobile manufacturer, paving the way for advanced electrification technologies.
A Massive ₹16.37 Crore Investment in Green Mobility
Under this strategic partnership, Hyundai Motor Company is investing approximately ₹16.37 crore across cutting-edge research projects. The collaboration is centered on heavy-duty optimization for future transit, focusing heavily on:
- Advanced Electric Vehicles (EVs)
- Battery Technology & Battery Management Systems (BMS)
- Energy Storage, Safety, and Electrification
A core strategic vision of this initiative is engineering battery materials and platforms uniquely optimized for India’s diverse weather, challenging terrain, and dynamic market conditions.

Joining the Elite Hyundai Centre of Excellence Network
By executing this agreement, Tezpur University officially joins the prestigious Hyundai Centre of Excellence (HCoE) network. This specialized innovation platform acts as a powerful incubator to foster local academic talent and accelerate India’s green transition.
Remarkably, Tezpur University signs an MoU with Hyundai as the only Central University in India to be chosen for this initiative. It joins an elite seven-university consortium that includes the following:
- Founding Partners: IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, and IIT Madras
- Expanded Network: IIT Kanpur, IIT Hyderabad, VNIT Nagpur, and Tezpur University
Global Exchange Programs and Broader Impact
The HCoE network is currently driving 39 joint research projects, including an innovative AI-powered Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) platform. Beyond localized laboratory research, the partnership introduces a dedicated Korea Visiting Program to facilitate bilateral knowledge sharing between Indian and South Korean automotive researchers, supplemented by global e-conferences and policy-level technology forums.
Academic Framework & Top-Tier Leadership
To execute the ₹16.37 crore grant, the university has deployed a robust administrative and technical framework out of its School of Engineering:
- Dr. Manashita Borah (Principal Investigator & Coordinator, Hyundai CoE): From the Department of Electrical Engineering, Dr. Borah serves as the primary point of contact coordinating core research objectives directly with Hyundai’s delegation.
- Prof. Soumik Roy (Dean, Research & Development): Hailing from the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), Prof. Roy acts as the primary institutional signatory, providing high-level administrative oversight.
- Prof. Amarendra Kumar Das (Pro-Vice Chancellor): Representing the top administrative tier, Prof. Das spearheaded the strategic partnership and formal MoU execution.
As Tezpur University signs an MoU with Hyundai, Dr. Borah’s team will draw technical support across the university’s dedicated faculties in Electrical Engineering and Energy Engineering, successfully building a robust, world-class battery expert network in Northeast India.
