LAPL Automotive is expanding its presence in India’s rapidly growing electric mobility ecosystem with two new developments in its Mirror Division. LAPL Automotive expands its EV two-wheeler mirror division through a development order from electric motorcycle maker Oben Electric and a new rear-view mirror product for existing customer BGAUSS. The developments add a new OEM relationship while broadening LAPL Automotive’s product portfolio with an existing EV customer.
The company said the Oben programme will involve designing and prototyping rear-view mirrors that meet technical, quality and validation requirements, while commercial production will depend on successful approvals. BGAUSS production is scheduled to begin in October 2026.
What Has LAPL Automotive Announced?
LAPL Automotive has secured two new EV two-wheeler mirror programmes:
- Oben Electric: New development order for rear-view mirrors.
- BGAUSS: New mirror product for an existing customer.
- BGAUSS production: Scheduled to begin in October 2026.
- Oben commercial production: Subject to validation, approvals, and commercial processes.
- Business impact: Expands LAPL’s EV customer and product portfolio.
LAPL Automotive Adds Oben Electric as New OEM Customer
The first development involves Oben Electric, an R&D-driven electric motorcycle manufacturer. LAPL Automotive has received a development order to design and prototype rear-view mirrors for Oben’s electric two-wheelers.
Under the programme, LAPL will work to meet Oben Electric’s technical, quality and validation requirements. The development order allows the automotive component manufacturer to demonstrate its engineering, product-development and manufacturing capabilities in the electric two-wheeler segment.
However, the programme is currently at the development stage. Commercial mass production will begin only after successful customer validation, approvals and completion of the required commercial processes.
New BGAUSS Mirror Product to Enter Production
LAPL Automotive has also expanded its existing relationship with BGAUSS by adding a new rear-view mirror product to its portfolio.
Commercial manufacturing of the new product is scheduled to commence in October 2026, giving LAPL an additional opportunity to increase its participation in BGAUSS’ electric two-wheeler product portfolio.
According to Autocar Professional, BGAUSS ranked seventh among India’s top 10 electric two-wheeler OEMs in FY2026.
Together, these developments mean LAPL expands its EV Two-Wheeler Mirror Division through both customer diversification and additional business with an existing EV customer.

Mirror Division Has Room for New EV Orders
The new programmes also come against the backdrop of LAPL Automotive’s existing manufacturing capacity.
During FY26, the company’s Lighting and Motor divisions recorded capacity utilisation of 91.25% and 90.70%, respectively. By comparison, the Mirror Division operated at 61.78% capacity utilisation.
This indicates that the Mirror Division has available capacity to absorb additional orders without requiring immediate large-scale capital deployment.
