Hyundai Mobis has commenced full-scale production of Power Electric systems at its newly established manufacturing plant in Nováky, Slovakia. The facility marks a major expansion of the company’s European electrification operations and strengthens its ability to supply essential electric powertrain components locally. With an annual capacity of 280,000 units, the new plant will manufacture Hyundai Mobis EV Power Systems for Hyundai Motor, Kia, and other global automotive customers operating across Europe.

Key Highlights

  • The new production plant is located in Nováky, Slovakia.
  • It is Hyundai Mobis’ first European PE system manufacturing facility.
  • The factory can produce up to 280,000 PE systems annually.
  • Hyundai Mobis invested approximately KRW 250 billion in the facility.
  • Production includes stators, inverters, and other electric motor components.
  • It becomes the company’s third European electrification production base.
  • The plant will serve Hyundai Motor, Kia, and international automakers.
  • Hyundai Mobis wants global customers to generate 40% of its revenue by 2033.

What Is an EV Power Electric System?

A Power Electric (PE) system is an integrated electric propulsion unit that typically combines three important components: an electric motor, inverter, and a reduction gear.

The motor generates the power needed to move an electric vehicle. The inverter manages the electrical current supplied by the battery, while the reduction gear transfers power efficiently to the wheels.

Together, these components influence an EV’s acceleration, driving efficiency, energy consumption, and overall performance. Establishing a dedicated PE production facility in Europe allows Hyundai Mobis to bring these critical components closer to vehicle assembly plants and customers.

Hyundai Mobis EV Power Systems Gain European Production Base

The Nováky facility is the company’s first plant in Europe dedicated to producing complete PE systems. It also becomes Hyundai Mobis’ third electrification manufacturing base in the region, following its battery system assembly facilities in the Czech Republic and Spain.

The expansion gives the company a more comprehensive European supply network covering both battery systems and electric drive components.

Producing these systems locally could help reduce transportation distances, improve delivery flexibility, and enable faster responses to changing production requirements from European automakers.

Slovakia Plant Can Produce 280,000 Systems Annually

The manufacturing complex occupies a site of approximately 106,000 square meters—an area comparable to around 15 football fields. Its main production facility covers approximately 8,500 square meters.

The plant contains production lines for stators, inverters, and other important components used in electric motors and propulsion systems. At full capacity, the factory can manufacture as many as 280,000 PE systems every year, potentially supporting an equivalent number of electric vehicles.

Hyundai Mobis invested approximately KRW 250 billion in developing the plant and establishing its advanced production capabilities.

The facility is expected to operate as an integrated European supply hub, delivering electrification components to Hyundai Motor and Kia while also supporting the company’s efforts to secure orders from other global automakers.

Grand Opening Brings Together Industry Leaders

Hyundai Mobis officially inaugurated the facility with a grand-opening ceremony hosted by its president and CEO, Lee Gyu Suk.

Approximately 100 people attended the event, including Slovak government officials, European Commission representatives, customers, key suppliers, and members of the local media.

The opening underlines the strategic importance of the new plant to Hyundai Mobis’ European operations and its broader transition towards future-mobility technologies.

Why Hyundai Mobis Selected Slovakia

Slovakia is one of Europe’s most important automotive manufacturing locations. Several major international automakers, including Kia, Volkswagen, Stellantis, and Volvo, maintain vehicle production operations in the country.

This established automotive ecosystem gives component manufacturers access to vehicle factories, skilled workers, suppliers, and transportation infrastructure.

For Hyundai Mobis, local production in Slovakia creates opportunities to supply existing customers while pursuing new electric-powertrain contracts from European and global vehicle manufacturers.

The location can also generate operational synergies with the company’s battery system assembly plants in the Czech Republic and Spain.

European Electrification Supply Chain Expands

Hyundai Mobis has developed technology and mass-production capabilities across several categories of electrification components, including Battery System Assemblies and Power Electric systems.

Its Czech and Spanish facilities already manufacture battery assemblies for electric vehicles. Adding PE system production in Slovakia expands the company’s European portfolio from battery components to integrated electric-drive technology.

The three facilities collectively give Hyundai Mobis a broader regional manufacturing footprint and improve its ability to offer multiple electrification solutions to automakers.

Beyond Europe, the company has established electrification production operations in important global markets. Its manufacturing network includes facilities in Ulsan, Daegu, Chungju and Pyeongtaek in South Korea, along with locations in the United States, Indonesia, the Czech Republic, Spain and now Slovakia.

Europe’s Growing EV Market Supports Expansion

Hyundai Mobis considers Europe a strategically important market because of its long-term electric-vehicle growth potential.

According to the European EV sales figures included in the announcement, 1,220,890 electric vehicles were sold across Europe between January and June 2026. This represented a 40.5% increase compared with the same period in the previous year, supported by growing demand in markets such as Germany, France and Denmark.

While EV demand can vary between individual countries and quarters, stricter emissions targets and expanding electric-car line-ups continue to encourage investment in regional battery and powertrain production.

The Nováky plant positions Hyundai Mobis EV Power Systems closer to this developing market and the automakers serving it.

Global Customers Targeted for Future Growth

Hyundai Mobis plans to expand beyond its traditional business with Hyundai Motor and Kia. The company has set a goal of generating 40% of its revenue from global customers by 2033.

Achieving this target will require competitive technologies, a diversified product portfolio and manufacturing facilities situated close to major automotive customers. The Slovakia investment supports all three priorities by adding high-volume PE production capacity within Europe.

The company expects the new facility to strengthen its competitiveness when bidding for electrification contracts and developing partnerships with international automakers.

Nováky Plant to Become a Key Electrification Hub

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Hyundai Mobis President and CEO Lee Gyu Suk said the company would continue investing in the Nováky facility and work to establish it as a key European electrification hub.

He also expressed confidence that future strategic models from global automakers equipped with the company’s PE technology could play an important role in Europe’s transition towards electric mobility.

With a production capacity of 280,000 units, a strategic Central European location and access to several major vehicle manufacturers, the new factory gives Hyundai Mobis a stronger foundation for future expansion.

The start of mass production represents more than the opening of another component plant. It completes a major part of the company’s regional electrification supply chain and makes Hyundai Mobis EV Power Systems an increasingly important part of its European growth strategy.
