Plugit Acquires Helen’s EV Charging Network in a landmark move that significantly strengthens Finland’s electric vehicle charging infrastructure. The Finnish EV service provider has completed the acquisition of Helen Oy’s public EV charging business, adding 199 charging stations and 798 charging points to its growing network. Although the financial details of the transaction were not disclosed, the acquisition marks one of the most important developments in Finland’s electric mobility sector this year.

Most of the newly acquired charging stations are located in or around Helsinki, positioning Plugit as the largest public EV charging operator in the Helsinki metropolitan area based on the number of charging points.

Strategic Deal Strengthens Helsinki EV Charging Network

The announcement that Plugit Acquires Helen EV Charging Network comes at a time when demand for electric vehicle charging continues to rise across Finland. The Helsinki metropolitan area and the wider Uusimaa region account for approximately half of Finland’s electric vehicle market, making the acquisition strategically important for the company’s long-term growth.

The expanded charging network enables Plugit to improve charging accessibility for private EV owners, business users, and fleet operators in one of the country’s busiest regions.

According to Johan Mild, CEO of Plugit, the acquisition represents a major strategic milestone for the company. He said Helen’s charging network complements Plugit’s existing infrastructure and strengthens its position in the capital region, where charging demand is increasing rapidly. He also noted that the expanded network will allow the company to provide both existing and new customers with a wider range of charging services through a more comprehensive infrastructure.

Thousands of EV Drivers Transition to Plugit

As part of the acquisition, more than 55,000 registered EV drivers previously using Helen’s charging services will become Plugit customers. Users will benefit from access to Plugit’s broader charging network through a single mobile application, making charging more convenient across Finland.

Before the acquisition, Plugit already operated approximately 6,000 charging stations across Finland and Sweden, serving more than 185,000 users. The integration of Helen’s charging assets further strengthens the company’s leadership in the Nordic EV charging market.

Helen also expressed confidence in the transition. Tuukka Toivonen, Director of Strategy and Corporate Restructuring at Helen, said the company is pleased that its EV charging business is moving to an experienced operator capable of developing the service over the long term while continuing to focus on customer needs.

Plugit Continues Nordic Expansion

The news that Plugit Acquires Helen EV Charging Network follows another major expansion announced earlier this year. In March 2026, Plugit acquired Green Stop Sweden AB, a Swedish charging infrastructure developer specializing in heavy-duty electric vehicles.

That acquisition included Green Stop’s truck charging station in Klevshult, Sweden, which opened in 2025, along with several strategically located development sites designed to support future heavy-duty EV charging.

What This Means for Finland’s EV Future

With Plugit Acquires the Helen EV Charging Network, the company further strengthens its leadership in Finland’s rapidly expanding electric mobility sector. The addition of nearly 800 charging points, thousands of new customers, and stronger coverage across Helsinki and Uusimaa enhances charging reliability while supporting the country’s transition toward cleaner transportation.

As EV adoption continues to accelerate across Finland, this acquisition positions Plugit to play an increasingly important role in expanding charging accessibility, improving customer experience, and supporting the next phase of sustainable transportation growth throughout the Nordic region.
