Polestar has officially unveiled its new flagship model, the Polestar 5, a four-door electric performance Grand Tourer (GT), at an exclusive global debut in Munich. This much-anticipated launch marks a significant milestone for Europe’s first pure EV brand, showcasing not just an advanced electric car but also a strong commitment to sustainability, innovation, and performance.

A Vision for Policy and Progress

During the debut, Polestar CEO Michael Lohscheller emphasized the importance of maintaining the EU’s 2035 target to end sales of new combustion cars. He stressed that weakening this target would undermine Europe’s climate goals, harm competitiveness, and send the wrong message to investors and consumers. This advocacy highlights Polestar’s position as not only a car manufacturer but also a thought leader in shaping the future of mobility.

Expanding Polestar’s EV Line-Up

Polestar has been rapidly growing its presence across 28 global markets in North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific. The brand already offers the Polestar 2 fastback, the Polestar 3 SUV, and the Polestar 4 SUV coupé. Future additions include the Polestar 6 roadster and Polestar 7 compact SUV, with Polestar 7 set to be produced in Europe. The Polestar 5 now crowns this expanding lineup as the flagship GT, turning the 2020 Precept concept into reality.

Performance and Architecture

At its core, the Polestar 5 is built on a bonded aluminum platform that delivers torsional rigidity surpassing even some supercars. It comes in two versions:

  • Dual Motor: 550 kW (748 hp), 812 Nm of torque, 0–100 km/h in 3.9 seconds, and up to 670 km WLTP range.
  • Performance Model: 650 kW (884 hp), 1,015 Nm, 0–100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds, and 565 km WLTP range.

Both feature 800V electrical architecture and ultra-fast charging of up to 350 kW, enabling a 10–80% charge in just 22 minutes.

Design and Interior Innovation

The design of the Polestar 5 stays true to its Precept roots, with a sleek aerodynamic profile, low stance, and Kamm-tail styling. A unique innovation is the absence of a conventional rear windscreen, replaced by a high-definition rear camera system projecting onto a digital mirror for improved visibility.

Inside, the Polestar 5 features a 14.5-inch portrait-oriented infotainment screen powered by Android Automotive OS with Google built in. The cabin prioritizes sustainability, using recycled plastics, repurposed fishing nets, and flax-based composites. Seating follows a 4+1 configuration, with added rear passenger comfort enabled by a “foot garage” design innovation.

Pricing and Availability

The Polestar 5 is now open for orders, with European pricing starting at €119,900 for the Dual Motor version and €142,900 for the Performance model. Deliveries are expected to begin in the first half of 2026.

Why It Matters for Fleets and Buyers?

Beyond being a consumer car, the Polestar 5 offers strong appeal for fleet and novated lease buyers. Its blend of high performance, long range, and Polestar’s sustainability-focused roadmap provides a compelling option for organizations seeking to reduce emissions without compromising on design or driving experience.

Conclusion

With the launch of the Polestar 5, the brand has cemented its position as a frontrunner in the premium EV market. By combining groundbreaking design, supercar-level performance, and an unwavering commitment to sustainability, Polestar has delivered a flagship GT that represents the future of electric mobility.
