Chandigarh Leads the Way

Chandigarh has become the first city in the country to receive 12-metre low-floor AC electric buses under this specific scheme. The UT Transport Department has received the first batch of 25 buses, while 75 more electric buses will arrive in phases. In total, 100 buses have been approved for the city in this initial phase.

Under the larger rollout, the Prime Minister is flagging off 225 electric buses across four cities — Guwahati (100), Nagpur (50), Bhavnagar (50), and Chandigarh (25).

Modern Features & Passenger Comfort

Each bus offers a driving range of 224 km on a single charge. Designed for inclusivity, the buses feature a 400 mm low-floor height, a power-operated wheelchair ramp, and an electronically controlled kneeling mechanism for easy boarding.

With seating for 36 passengers and space for 20 standees, the buses are equipped with CCTV cameras, GPS tracking, passenger-counting cameras, and a reverse camera to ensure safety and efficiency.

Towards a 100% Electric Fleet

The initiative aligns with Chandigarh Transport Undertaking’s ambitious plan to make its entire fleet 100% electric by 2026–27. As PM Modi is set to launch 25 EV buses in Chandigarh, the move strengthens India’s commitment to clean, modern, and inclusive public transport.
