India’s long-distance travel segment is entering a transformative phase as LeafyBus partners with Eicher Trucks & Buses to deploy a large fleet of electric intercity sleeper buses. This collaboration marks a decisive shift toward clean, sustainable, and comfortable long-haul mobility, reducing dependence on diesel while enhancing passenger experience across national highways.

100 Electric Sleeper Buses for National Routes

Under this partnership, LeafyBus will deploy 100 Skyline Pro E 13.5-metre electric intercity sleeper buses across key high-demand corridors in India. The rollout will begin with 35 buses by March 31, 2026, followed by phased expansion over the next 18 months. Enabled through an electric bus leasing programme by Enetra EV Private Limited, the initiative is backed by a USD 4.1 million investment to support fleet growth and charging infrastructure.

This strategic expansion strengthens LeafyBus’s position as India’s first operator of long-distance electric buses, as LeafyBus partners with Eicher to scale zero-emission travel across major routes.

Strengthening Volvo–Eicher’s Electric Vision

The partnership also represents a significant milestone for the Volvo–Eicher joint venture, marking its entry into the intercity electric bus segment in India. Teams from both companies are working closely on route feasibility studies, charging infrastructure planning, uptime solutions, and operational support to ensure reliable, efficient, and seamless electric bus operations.

As LeafyBus partners with Eicher, the focus extends beyond vehicle deployment to building a complete EV ecosystem that supports long-distance electric mobility at scale.

Skyline Pro E: Built for Long-Haul Comfort and Safety

The Skyline Pro E 13.5m electric sleeper bus is purpose-built for intercity travel. It features a 36+D sleeper layout with upper and lower berths, offering premium comfort for overnight journeys. Powering the bus is a 400 kWh LFP battery paired with a 235 kW permanent magnet motor, optimised for range, efficiency, and durability.

Passenger safety is enhanced through ADAS, CCTV surveillance, live tracking, advanced braking systems, and front and rear air suspension for smoother rides.

Expanding Electric Travel Corridors

Currently operating on the Delhi–Dehradun route, LeafyBus plans rapid expansion to Delhi–Lucknow, Delhi–Agra, and Delhi–Jaipur, with at least one new electric corridor introduced every month. With LeafyBus partnering with Eicher, this initiative is set to redefine intercity travel by combining sustainability, comfort, and reliability on India’s highways.
