Mysuru sees a spike in registration of EV two-wheelers, reflecting a clear shift in consumer preference toward cleaner and more economical mobility options. Rising petrol prices, lower operating costs, and rapid improvements in battery technology have made electric scooters and motorcycles increasingly attractive to daily commuters and businesses alike.
Rising Registrations at Mysuru East RTO
The trend is most visible at the Mysuru East Regional Transport Office (RTO), which recorded a 16% increase in overall EV registrations during the first nine-and-a-half months of the current financial year compared to the previous one. This growth includes electric two-wheelers, cars, autos, and goods vehicles, with scooters accounting for the majority of registrations.

According to Regional Transport Officer NS Madhura, users are increasingly opting for EVs due to significantly lower running costs. In 2024–25, around 1,225 EVs were registered. This number has already been surpassed in the current fiscal year, with 1,424 EVs registered as of January 16, 2026, clearly showing that Mysuru sees a spike in registration of EV two-wheelers at a rapid pace.
Gradual Growth in Electric Cars
While two-wheelers dominate the EV market, electric cars are also gaining traction. Registrations of EV cars at Mysuru East RTO rose from 12 units in the previous year to about 20 units within just 10 months of the current fiscal year. Though volumes remain modest, the steady rise indicates growing confidence in electric mobility across vehicle segments.
Factors Driving Demand
Industry representatives point to several factors fueling this growth. Government incentives, reduced registration fees, and expanded charging infrastructure have lowered entry barriers for buyers. Additionally, improved driving range, faster charging times, and stronger after-sales networks have helped ease consumer concerns. These developments further explain why Mysuru sees a spike in registration of EV two-wheelers despite economic uncertainties.
Delivery services and gig-economy operators are also accelerating the transition, as EVs significantly reduce fuel and maintenance expenses, improving long-term profitability.
Mixed Trends Across RTO Zones
In contrast, EV registrations at Mysuru West (KA-09) RTO declined in the previous calendar year. Only 523 electric two-wheelers and 75 cars were registered, compared to 2,778 scooters and 141 cars in 2024. Officials attribute this drop to new provisions allowing vehicle registration at any RTO across Karnataka. Despite this, Mysuru West remains a major contributor, having registered 3,300 EV two-wheelers and 216 cars since 2024.
Karnataka’s Broader EV Landscape
Transport authorities note that Karnataka’s total vehicle population stands at 3.29 crore as of March 2025, underlining the massive potential for EV expansion. With supportive policies and improving technology, Mysuru sees a spike in registration of EV two-wheelers that is likely to continue, setting an example for other cities in the state.
