GreenCell Mobility is accelerating its electric public transport expansion after securing Rs 330 crore in fresh equity from Impact Fund Denmark. The latest GreenCell Mobility funding round gives the Mumbai-based company additional capital to execute a large e-bus order book and expand its operating footprint.

Backed by Eversource Capital, GreenCell runs intracity electric bus services and the NueGo intercity brand. The investment will support vehicle deployment, charging infrastructure, and operational capacity as the company scales across India, while focusing on service reliability, efficiency, and passenger experience.

GreenCell Mobility has raised Rs 330 crore from Impact Fund Denmark to support the deployment of around 4,500 electric buses. The expansion is expected to take its fleet beyond 5,000 buses across 105 Indian cities over the next six to eight quarters.

Rs 330 Crore Equity Boost for E-Bus Expansion

The October 2026 GreenCell Mobility Funding was made through Impact Fund Denmark’s SDG Investment Fund II. Impact Fund Denmark said its investment is about $35 million and is intended to accelerate cleaner public transport in India.

Key Numbers
  • Rs 330 crore in fresh equity
  • Around 4,500 electric buses planned
  • Fleet expected to cross 5,000 buses
  • Expansion across 105 Indian cities
  • Deployment planned over six to eight quarters

GreenCell’s Electric Mobility Network

Established in 2019, GreenCell Mobility operates a manufacturer-agnostic electric mobility-as-a-service model. It currently runs more than 1,200 electric buses and over 270 charging stations. Its network covers both intracity operations and NueGo-branded intercity electric bus services.

Managing Director and CEO Devendra Chawla said the company is focused on executing its order book with discipline, strengthening service delivery, and ensuring the organization keeps pace with the increasing scale and complexity of its operations.

Institutional Capital Behind GreenCell

The latest GreenCell Mobility Funding adds to substantial institutional backing. In January 2026, the company raised $89 million in mezzanine financing from IFC, British International Investment, and Tata Capital.

IFC had also committed $37 million in September 2025. That investment introduced a payment security mechanism aimed at reducing payment risks associated with municipal and state transport undertakings, improving the bankability of large electric bus projects.

GreenCell has also previously secured a Rs 3,000 crore debt facility from REC Limited, supporting its capital-intensive bus procurement and deployment model.

Why This Funding Matters for India’s EV Market

The GreenCell Mobility Funding highlights growing investor confidence in electric public transport as an infrastructure-scale opportunity. Expanding e-bus networks requires capital not only for vehicles but also for charging stations, depots, maintenance systems, technology platforms, and reliable operations.

As India pushes toward cleaner public transport, GreenCell’s planned 4,500-bus rollout could strengthen electric mobility across more cities and reduce dependence on diesel-powered buses. The deal also shows how long-term institutional capital is becoming increasingly important for building scalable and commercially viable electric bus networks.
