The Union Ministry of Heavy Industries has approved ₹26.59 crore to establish 179 public EV charging stations across Himachal Pradesh, strengthening the state’s clean mobility infrastructure. The funding will support a wider network to serve residents, daily commuters, tourists, and EV users travelling through the hill state. At the centre of the plan are Himachal EV Charging Stations, expected to reduce charging anxiety and improve long-distance EV usability.

The State Transport Department will act as the nodal agency, coordinating implementation as Himachal Pradesh accelerates its shift towards electric mobility and greener public transport solutions statewide.

The Centre has sanctioned ₹26.59 crore for 179 Himachal EV charging stations, with the State Transport Department responsible for implementation.

What Has Been Approved?

The allocation comes under the PM Electric Drive Revolution in the Innovative Vehicle Enhancement programme. The scheme has an outlay of ₹10,900 crore, including ₹2,000 crore for public EV charging stations across India.

Key highlights:
  • 179 charging stations planned across Himachal Pradesh.
  • ₹26.59 crore approved by the Union Ministry of Heavy Industries.
  • The State Transport Department was appointed as the nodal agency.
  • The network will support EV users and tourists across the hill state.

Why It Matters for Himachal

Transport Minister Mukesh Agnihotri said the funding would help expand Himachal EV charging stations and improve charging access. A wider network could make electric vehicles practical for intercity travel, tourism routes, and daily commuting.

Bigger Electric Mobility Push

The expansion comes alongside Himachal Pradesh’s green transport strategy. The state has approved 1,000 new electric buses for the Himachal Road Transport Corporation, which already operates around 250 e-buses.

Together, new buses and Himachal EV Charging Stations could strengthen the state’s shift towards cleaner mobility while creating a more EV-friendly transport ecosystem statewide.
