As the Delhi government prepares to finalize its Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy 2026–2030, the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) has intensified its appeal for greater stakeholder participation. During a recent industry event in Delhi, FADA President C. S. Vigneshwar emphasised that while the industry fully supports EV adoption, the transition must be enabling rather than enforcement-driven. Employment and Economic Contribution at Stake

FADA underscored the critical role played by the auto retail sector in Delhi’s economy. With around 550 dealership outlets employing nearly 55,000 people, the sector contributes approximately ₹7,150 crore annually through taxes. The association warned that excluding dealers from policy planning could disrupt this ecosystem, reinforcing why FADA Urges Auto Dealer Inclusion is essential for economic stability.

Key Proposals for Smooth EV Transition

To support the EV shift, FADA outlined three primary recommendations:

  • Infrastructure Development: Proposal to establish 150 public EV charging stations across Delhi in partnership with the government.
  • Workforce Training: Setting up training centres and Centres of Excellence at ITIs to build an EV-ready workforce.
  • Policy Stability: Ensuring inclusive policies that reflect on-ground challenges faced by dealers.

FADA also supported the vehicle scrappage policy while calling for adequate infrastructure, including scrappage centres and dedicated auto zones equipped with modern facilities.

Rapid EV Growth and Policy Timeline

Delhi is witnessing strong EV adoption, with electric two-wheelers growing by 62%, passenger EVs by 41%, and commercial EVs surging nearly 700%. The draft EV policy proposes banning new petrol three-wheelers by January 2027 and two-wheelers by April 2028, indicating a shift from incentives to stricter regulations.

Government Acknowledges Dealer Role

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta recognized dealers as a crucial link in the EV transition. She encouraged them to actively promote EV adoption among consumers as the city moves toward mandatory electrification.
