Delhi CM Flags Off 500 Electric Buses, marking a significant milestone in the capital’s journey toward sustainable and pollution-free public transport. On February 8, 2026, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated 500 new electric buses, strengthening the Delhi Transport Corporation’s (DTC) clean mobility push and reinforcing the city’s leadership in electric public transport.
EV Fleet Crosses 4,000 Mark
With this latest rollout, the total number of electric buses operating under DTC has surged to 4,286, making Delhi the state with the largest registered electric bus fleet in India, surpassing Maharashtra. This single expansion is among the largest additions to Delhi’s clean transport network in recent months and now accounts for nearly 40% of DTC’s total ridership.
Boost to Connectivity and Air Quality

The Chief Minister emphasized that electric buses play a crucial role in reducing vehicular emissions and creating a healthier urban environment for residents.

The Delhi government has set ambitious goals, aiming to deploy 7,500 electric buses by the end of 2026 and expand the fleet to 14,000 by 2028. Alongside city operations, a new inter-state electric bus service between Delhi and Panipat was also inaugurated, enhancing regional connectivity with zero-emission transport.
Modern Features and Policy Support
Each newly inducted bus is low-floor, air-conditioned, and equipped with CCTV cameras and panic buttons to ensure passenger safety. To support this transformation, the government approved a ₹1,200 crore grant for DTC, covering fleet modernization and employee dues.
