ComEd to offer $70 million in EV rebates in 2026, marking one of the most significant regional pushes to accelerate electric vehicle adoption across northern Illinois. The announcement was made during the annual Chicago Auto Show, highlighting ComEd’s long-term commitment to clean mobility and equitable electrification.
What Does the $70 Million EV Rebate Program Cover?
The newly announced funding is designed to reduce the upfront cost barriers associated with EV ownership and charging infrastructure. Under this initiative, ComEd will offer $70 million in EV rebates across three major categories:

1. Residential EV Charger & Installation
More than $4 million has been allocated for residential customers. Eligible households can receive rebates of up to $2,500 per home for Level 2 charger installation. To qualify, customers must have a ComEd account, install the charger through an ICC-certified professional, and enroll in a time-variant supply rate for three years.
2. Business and Public Sector EV Purchases
The largest share—over $35 million—is dedicated to businesses and public sector organizations transitioning their vehicle fleets to electric. Rebates range from $7,500 to $240,000 per vehicle, depending on vehicle type and project eligibility.
3. Charging Infrastructure and Make-Ready Projects
More than $29 million will support business and public sector charging infrastructure, helping expand access to reliable EV charging across communities, workplaces, and public facilities.
Focus on Equity and Low-Income Communities
A defining feature of the program is its equity-first approach. Over 50% of total funds are reserved for low-income customers and projects located in Equity Investment Eligible Communities (EIECs). These participants qualify for higher rebate amounts, ensuring the EV transition benefits all residents—not just early adopters.
Since 2024, ComEd has already delivered over $160 million in EV funding across northern Illinois, with more than 80% directed to EIECs. These investments have helped deploy 10,000+ EV chargers across 350 Illinois zip codes.
Support for Schools and Electric Buses
The rebate program also includes substantial funding for school districts electrifying their bus fleets, with enhanced incentives for districts located in EIECs. This move supports cleaner air around schools while lowering long-term transportation costs.
Backed by a Strong Utility Leader
ComEd operates as a unit of Exelon Corporation, serving more than 4 million customers across northern Illinois. The EV rebates are funded through the Beneficial Electrification program, approved by the Illinois Commerce Commission.
As EV demand continues to rise, ComEd’s offer of $70 million in EV rebates represents a major step toward cleaner transportation, grid-ready charging infrastructure, and a more inclusive energy future.
